If you wanted to know the popular themes of our movies.

A boy meets the girl. He teases her. At first the girl gets angry or nervous because she is a "good" girl, and "good" girls are not supposed to fall in love that easily. Then some mishap occurs, and the girl develops soft corner for the guy. And eventually, the guy rescues her from a bunch of ruffians which generally include relatives. So far so good. And oh so boring. I think I could never get through one movie if there were no songs and the heroine didnt get a chance to wear beautiful clothes. Do you all have such predictable themes in your movies?

Hi Vandy! You could better avoid seeing movies with predictable themes, I also do the same. You see predictable themes work in Indian movies and people love to see them again and again. Many of us prefer to see off beat movies, however, there are many who love to see a romantic movie on a predictable theme. Many audiences love to see the fantasies being enacted in the movies. Our movies take them to wonderland full of dreams and unrealistic things, but many enjoy it.

You always have a choice to see movies of your taste and choice i.e. realistic movies. I also only prefer to see realistic and comedy movies, if any other movie is playing on TV and am not interested, I go to another room.

Deepu there were a string of movies ..Apna Desh, Amir Garib, Joshiley, etc., movies you wouldnt be able to watch today. Why did they make them? I prefer movies that leave me with a nice feeling towards the end, which are practical but at the end of it ..there is hope. That type. :)

I can predict most of the movies that I have seen. Sometimes I could even know the story from certain country as they always brought up the same theme. Love between rich guy and poor lady, from rival/enemy to love relationship, secret admirer and he/she actually one the main character's friends, two boys with a girl, jealousy etc, I always know the ending..and my family always said that I am the 'director' of the movie since I can tell them what will going to happen to the character in the next scene. Pretty boring and that is why I spend less time watching movies/drama on tv/cinema.(^^)

Rich Guy, Poor Girl, and Secret Admirer - doesnt that sound like A Tale of Two cities? They tweak same stories as if we are such fools.

Oh, they are really too many copycat/duplicated movies nowadays. Like they just recycle the old and change the time and background only. I think we already explore every aspects in human life that is why they can't find and think of any new idea/themes/plot of movies.(^^)

Horse is not objectionable, to an extent action is not too. But come on dinosaur walking on the streets ..or the world ending - there was one with Keanu Reeves coming to destroy earthlings! Terminator series were also a bit far fetched. I like detective serials - solving mysteries. :)

Hi vandana Hmmm... so you have been watching too many of these recently just like me... These arent boring at times... when I try to find out how when where of these. I find and occasionally get some ideas to spice up my love life from them and so I should be thankful. I always love the DDLJ from all the ones of my times and have watched that over a 100 times now... Anyways that is not the discussion so here I go again - In indian scenario today they have started changing the themes more and I love some of those changed ones - they are never shown here at theaters in Bhubaneswar so it is only pirated DVDs or Internet Downloads... From Indian Movies I love Rahul Bose Movies. They seem to be different (so what a few can be branded as love stories). Others that I like are comedies - though many recent ones have been a disaster when they thought they will make me laugh - but then if you are watching Bollywood ones... most of them dont want you to have a brain

thesids..I give up with you..you must have a blond gene somewhere.. I mean..DDLJ. for christ's sake..that and Hum Aap K hain kaun boil my blood. And all such movies do that to me. I dont know if you watch old movies. But amongst the best would be Do Bigha Zameen, Mausam, Jaagte Raho, Pyaasa, Waqt, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Kashmir Ki Kali, Albela (old), Junglee.. But that is because I did not have much choice. Few realistic films were made back then, and music really captivated people - I am no exception. Personally prefer comedies like Angur, and Jaane bhi do yaaron, or detective serials or law serials.

Yeah...actually - when I was in school ..after every summer girls would mention how many movies they saw. If I said one or two it would look so odd. So even I used to hike that number..at times fighting with dad and others to show me movies that I really didnt understand..just to increase that count. Once my friend caught me napping in a movie.

I think it was Amir Garib. We had another hosteler, whose mother was an extra. She was there in that movie. And so she turned to tell me there is Sarita's mommy..and Vandy was fast asleep.

India movies is identical with songs... never knew an Indian movie without the actors/actress singing. I kind of like that kind of movies, where it ends in happiness. In Indonesia, movies are a bit slow these decades replaced by dramas. I don't like to see the dramas though as it shows about cruelty, over jealousy, greediness, and vindictiveness...

I like the way you described the hero.... Yeah, we know those kinds of things are nonsense and cannot be done in real life, still it was the dreams of everyone that we can talk freely and right every wrongs in this world... Well, as for the entertainment purpose they do the work.

Our movies too are pretty much predictable. Everything you said are in love stories. While some movies includes flash mobs. When I was young, I used to wonder and ask questions to my mom on how the lead actors and strangers in the street know what to dance. When the theme about 'dying' started. It's already expected that one popular guy or girl would fall in love with a nerdy guy/girl. Later one will realize that the other is dying. The ending is not really nice.

When I was a kid we had to plan a whole lot to go for a movie. We had to call rickshaw or be ready by so and so time at some bus stand and wait for the bus. So when I used to watch our heros and heroines run in those meadows I used to ask how they are going to return home since there are no buses to be seen anywhere? Love and dying alternate each other like fashions. But I am mighty glad things like the ring, and the dark room are not liked out here.
