How have humans evolved to be the dominant species today?

Apparently, we are related to the apes, so why have the monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzees still so far behind? After thousands of years we seem to have stayed in the same shape and form, maybe slightly taller, stronger and living longer - so how long has it taken us to evolve to become this way? Have we really evolved from apes or some other creature - i.e. the theory that we had tails before?

From a Christian point of view. Darwin's theory that men came from apes is just a hoax. I refuse to believe in the theory of evolution. God made us superior and above his creations and we should be thankful about it.
