Chinese astrology: What do my elements mean?

I am fascinated about astrology but most of the time I look up my sun sign which is Capricorn. Then, last night, I looked up for Chinese astrology and found out that I am a white snake born in the year of white monkey. My five lucky elements are metal (you), water (kids), wood (money), fire (job) and soil (mom). Now, I do not know what all these mean. I hope someone can enlighten me on these.

There are 5 elements which are part of the Chinese philosophy. They are : Wood' Fire' Earth' Metal and Water. These elements were linked with 5 planets during the olden days i.e. Jupiter for Wood' Mars for Fire' Saturn for Earth' Venus for Metal and Mercury for Water. Astrologers find out the position of the planets in order to find out what are the issues which will dominate a person in his / her life.
These elements can also be linked with particular colors i.e. Green with Wood' Red with Fire' Brown with Earth' Black with Water and White with Metal. These elements are also linked with the animals which represent zodiac signs. During every 12 – year cycle' the animal takes up 1 of these elements till all 5 of the elements have been used.

Astrology is a very systematic subject, Western Astrology as well as Eastern Astrology. In Eastern Astrology, they check the sun sign, moon sign, and the rising sign (Lagna). Chinese Astrology is again quite unique in different ways.

Elements are such that it guides you to be wary of what is good for you and what is not. To some it may even be common sense but again if you do not really know your exact time and date of birth the guide will be off. Please note that the time and date refer here are based on the Lunar calendar.
To elaborate what I mean, I will give a simple illustration - if you (accurately determined) are of metal, then you will have to see which aspect of your life are you looking into. Take partnership, you will need to see your temperament - if you are quick to anger then a partner who is of element of fire or water will not be ideal. Since fire will "melt" you and water will "corrode" you. While earth, wood and metal will bring about a much more balanced life.

I don't think it really mean anything, astrology is just a mythology that is created and use to confuse mind, no matter it is from the west or the east. The more you want to find out the real meaning behind all these signs, the deeper confusion you will fall into. It is an invention that is designed to give you numerous sleepless nights and more migrains if you insist on knowing more.
