My dog neo, a alsa aphso was with me since he was 3 months old. Neo, is the only being who was with me in my darkest moment. That's why I really love this dog. A year after i got married, I have to move to my husband house where his mom stay with us. Sad to say I cannot bring neo with me cause my mother-in-law is allergic to dog and dust. I have to leave neo to my mom's house. Its been 3 months already since my last visit to neo. I was so excited to visit neo this holiday but wondering if he can still remember me. On the way to my mom's house, my heart beat fast as I recognized my dog's tail hiding behind the gate. I call him by his name. And I was shocked when He run towards me, bark and lick my hand. Wow, the connection and affection of my dog is still there strong and alive even i am miles away. My dog is really my best friend. We had a good time the whole day and left my heart aching leaving him again. See you soon my neo. You are always in heart and mind.

Research I've read says dogs have the intelligence of a 7 year old child. They have a vocabulary of around 250 words. I know I think my dogs understand everything I say to them. Does a 7 year old forget their parent? I don't think so. Dogs have excellent memories, and they even forgive abusive owners. I know they form attachments to certain people. Both my dogs are attached to my grandson, he shows up and they love him like a long lost friend. Other strangers can come here, they are friendly, but nothing like they are with those they love. I think dogs are attached to the people who love them until they die regardless where they are. Look at how many cases are seen where dogs will go 100rds of miles to get home and they will find their owners. Pretty amazing pets.

I agree with you they form some kind of attachment with someone in the family normally. They would love all of us but they would have their favorites too. One of our dogs is sweeter to my mom. While the small one is much attached to me. She usually jumps up on my laptop even I just asked him hello... while my mom had a hard time asking her to jump on her laptop And yes they do understand what we say to them. My dad just laugh at us when me and my mom would tell him that our dogs really understands what awe says.

Dogs never really easily forgets us. Would you believe my brother has been away from the country for 2 years while my dad for almost a year, and still our dog remembers them. Our dog will be so happy, licking them and jumping on them.
