Anyone know of any obscure game titles?

Either because of poor marketing strategies, lack thereof, few copies, or just didn't hit off at the time, do any of you know of any little known game titles? These can be RPGs, platformers, shooters, and so on. I'm wanting to expand my current knowledge of games and have always been an undergrounder when it came to taste. Sure I still love my Zelda, Mario, Duke Nukem, Doom, and so on, but I love me some less known titles like Klonoa, Unreal, (not to be confused with the more popular Unreal Tournament, the original Unreal fell into obscurity) Die By the Sword (Skyward Sword-like swing control, except damage magnifies the faster you swing and can dismember enemies), and Revenant (RPG that didn't go over well due to it being an unfinished product, good work is in it but the company died before the patches could complete it). Also, I mean games that are good, just little known. Not because people hated the games. Any systems accepted: computer, arcade, and console. However, I don't count mobile phone as that is a phone, not a system. XD

Wow! You're really into this stuff, eh? I like strategy games more & can think back to all the old ones I used to like back in school. Have you seen websites like "oldschoolDOS"? My, but they do bring back memories! Some of the downloads you can get these days are even better than the ones I remember playing from floppy disks. I'm going to list some off the top of my head - I don't know if you consider them to be good or not, but as a kid I loved playing them at school. The most memorable are what were called adventure games & the best ones I cannot recall titles, but I can describe them to you if you have a couple of hours to spare! Have you heard of Cransom Manor? That was on the old Commodore 64 - running off of a cassette tape! Gold Dust Island was another great one, but some versions had errors. There's one on the old Apple platform that had something to do with werewolves & vampires. Oh - you'll know this one... Oregon Trail! That almost made me hitch a wagon to the dog & settle the West! Anything by Sid Meyer was absolutely fantastic!

Those are really old school games. I never thought some of them are downloadable these days. Anyway thanks for the info about where to get them. They do remind us of the days where we are fascinated by simple dots which are moving left to right, up and down. They are old school games but they are very addictive and fun to play. Graphically they are lame compared to what we have now but the depth of gameplay, uniqueness and simplicity of the game has lured us to play them over and over again. Love those days of classic gaming.

There are about half a dozen websites you can download these from. I used to play King's Quest when it first came out - that was really clever. Also Taipan which is so tiny you can shove it into accessories & play it whenever the internet is down. There's a whole heap I used to play on the AMSTRAD, which I've recently fixed & restored. I reckon if Sid Meyer was still making the clever games on today's platforms like he was in the past, we'd see some really cool stuff! Oregon Trail jokes? Really? I hadn't heard. Appologies for the spellings - I'd never seen those written down anywhere before & when I played those games, I was too young to spell!

Does anyone remember that karate game? Maybe it had Bruce Lee in there... what was it? Karateeka? Yeah - that's another one! Frogger was also popular then... probably still is today, as well as pac-man. There were also a whole heap of board games made into computer games too... I haven't seen some of them around for years! I've got to ask my brother about this one... there's a real fair dinkum Aussie one that came out in 2000 & never "made it", but was great to play - really "apes" the culture!

I can remember an almost unknown game for the Playstation 1 which is actually an import from Japan. Originally released if I'm not mistaken year 1998, the sword fighting game called Bushido Blade, is a classic example of an obscure game but is actually a good game and unique compared to the more popular sword fighting game Soul Blade aka Soul Calibur and Battle Arena Toshinden. Compared to those two popular games, Bushido Blade is not that graphically enticing but it is very different and fun to play with. Imagine a sword fighting game without life bars. To be able to win a round, you need to land a fatal blow to your opponent. The gameplay is addictive and intriguing. The arenas are large and also 3 dimensional. This game was a sleeper hit for it's cult followers during that time.

Hey, I've heard of that game and I believe I have played it once. Shoot, and I had actually forgotten about it until you mentioned it. I remember way back when a friend told me of this particular game. "A fighting game with no lifebar" was how it was said to me and was a weird concept to me at the time. Until I saw it and realized it was to simulate a realistic sword fighting experience. Still an interesting concept today, I wonder if any other games picked up on it. Thanks for the response and reminding me of this game!
