Indian music and musical instruments have received a lot of appreciation and following from the west. There is something in it which gives you that divine and spiritual sort of feeling and makes you feel connected. Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Bismillah Khan, A R Rahman.. are some well know names in west when it comes to Indian music. Since the past decade A R Rehman had the honor of being the brand ambassador of Indian music to the rest of the world. Music in movies like "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Lord of the Rings" speaks for itself. There is a big demand of Indian music and artists now. I read today that Indian band "Agnee" along with Pakistani band "Strings" has been asked to compose the music for the lead song in the movie "Avengers". Have you heard Indian music.. What are your views about it.. Any particular favorites...??

Ravi Shankar's name is the best known where I am in the UK, but my only extensive contact with Indian music is in a rather Westernised form - I've listened to and played in A Bryson Gerrard's (western) orchestral variations on Jana Gana Mana.

The shlokas from Gita "Yada Yada hi dharmasya..." sung by Asha Bhonsle which appeared in the movie Bulletproof Monk is quite famous too..
