I know in the United States they began putting fluoride in the water to help prevent tooth decay. Ever since, we do not suffer so much decay of our teeth because of the addition of fluoride to the water. The amount is large enough to help protect our teeth, yet small enough to not do damage to our bodies. In large quantities, fluoride can be dangerous. Here is a blog about fluoride. http://www.fluorideinfo.org/ Here is a government fact sheet, filled with all kinds of links regarding fluoride: http://www.cdc.gov/fluoridation/fact_sheets/cwf_qa.htm
