Third match of the cricket triseries in Australia was a close nail biting encounter between Sri Lanka and Australia played at Perth where Sri Lanka failed just before the finish line. Requiring 18 runs to win of last over Angelo Mathews hit a four and a six of the first 2 deliveries, scored a single of the third, his partner returned the strike to him very next ball. Requiring six runs of the last 2 balls, Mathews tried to finish the match next ball but ended in skying the ball and in the safe hands of Cristian. Sri Lanka controlled the match fpr most part of the day but their front line batsmen failed to capitalize on what their bowlers gained. Sri Lanka were also unlucky that Sangakkara got unfortunately run out when he and Dilshan were cruising steadily but surely towards achieving the target. Australia are now sitting pretty with 2 wins and are sure to reach the finals. It is going to be a battle between India and Sri Lanka FOR the spot of second finalist.

Well I see the Sri Lankan player body language is not good at all, as i thing when the Sangakara has left the captaincy from sri lanka his performance is out of form from South africa series and new captain dilshan has made some good decision during bowling time but their batting is not up to the mark as the runner up team of world cup, I didnot see any player look likes they will win this match at all. Well this is the start of series as all team has to play 4 games with each other, but no doubt aus perform is upto the mark while today match their batting is claps but their bowler win the match for their team.. So we have to watch the every match that every team play with each other, no doubt now the tournament is open for every team but aus has seem to me the upper hand due to their performance and as well as home advantage...

Sri Lanka bowled well to restrict Australia to 231. They were also on course to win until Sangakkara was run out unfortunately. Their cricket administration is in turmoil but the players play their part and as Angelo Mathews said they play the game for love of it. One win will cheer this team up and change their body language.

I was not following the match but from here with this discussion i came to know about the resutl. Well srilanka just fall short but they played really well. Angelo Mathews take his team to last ball but it was not his fortune today so he didn't able to get the six rather he was caught. This game was superb nail biting finish these types of games are required and these gave pleasure to public as it is more entertaining. Now sure INDIA had to fight with srilanka for final but still can't say that if australia loss all the rest matches then???? Chaces are less but it is.

Thank you rajiv. India will have to be careful with Sri Lanka now. They have already got themselves accustomed to Australian conditions now. You are right Australia has not yet got their place in final for sure. They can still be ousted with lot of matches still to go but Australia is a great team difficult to beat especially in home conditions.

SL have themselves to blame for the loss.Mathews whom they call a finisher comes at 7 or 8 while a so called in form finisher should come at no 5 atleast. As expected Mathews ran out of partners, with individual brilliance he took SL close but was not good enough.Aussies always become progressively better in a series or tournament and as tournament goes on they will become harder to beat.SL wont get a better chance, chasing 230 on a decent batting track, they gave it away.

THank you kasiviswanathan. It was a great game of cricket. It was Sri Lankans who controlled the game for most part of the day. The game slipped from their grip when Sangakkara got unfortunately run out. Mathews brought them back into the game but failed at the last hurdle.

You are right India and Srilanka will fight it out for the 2nd spot in the finals.yes it was a nice game of cricket but it was unfortunate for Mathews who could not guide Srilanka to the finishing line.

Well anyhow Angelo Mathews played his role as an all rounder. As far as I know it is Dilshans fault that he didn't warn his partner at the other end, sangakkara.I think that it would have been better if Angelo Mathews had tried to go down the ground and look for the boundary first and then score the remaining amount of runs.
