Why is it people look up for teachers as role models?

People do sometimes judgemental for teachers the way I'm experiencing it. As an educator, I must (so as oblige us to do) not do certain things in public and do only what is pleasing. But these people must also remember that no one (and I say NO ONE) in this world is perfect. You can not always be Mr. and Ms. prim and proper at all times. I think it's mediocrity at its finest hour to be always wearing long sleeves at all times eventhough the sun stood directly to us in summer instead of a T-Shirt. Relationshipwise, a teacher MUST (oh I abhor the word!) only have one wife else you'll get fired and be charge administratively (of course exemptions on our muslim counterparts) and will be cast away from the society and mark an INFIDEL for life and as if you don't deserve to LIVE at all. What if somethign happened inside that relationship? Does the teacher OBLIGE to tell it to the whole community sbout their marital problems that lead to a broken family? I'm in this situation now and I would like to here from you whoever you are there who has a problem like mine and please do share your ideas/views what MUST be done...

Teachers are looked at as role models the same way people expect children to look up to their parents as their role models. Teachers work with many of our children. So they should act and apply themselves accordingly not because they have to or must but to have a sense of responsibility that there are children who may be looking up to me. You are right though that not everyone is perfect. If a teacher suffers problems whether they be personal or not it afffects the views of the parents and guardians of whom the teachers are watching over. They immediately judge you as a person but more importantly your ability to teach said children. In which case people become hesitant to let you teach their children. So it's best to keep a stable appearance at your job and prove that you are capable of keeping a job. TO do so, you must do everything you can to settle your problems in a convenient and discreet manner. So i think anyway, i'm only a student still :P

Teachers are so nice with us and they teach us to fight against the harsh facts of life. They teach us how to go against the negative points.

To all who responded to my post, many thanks. First things first, I don't disagree with all of your opinions. I used to be the IDEALIST type of a person. I agree when one have commented that "TEACHING is the NOBLEST PROFESSION" and "STUDENTS look up so much to TEACHERS because they should be the ROLE MODELS. Secondly, I'm fully AWARE too that we play the biggest role in molding our society for they'll won't be any judge, engineers, pilots, police officers, architects and so on and so forth without TEACHERS. My only point here is OFTENTIMES WE ARE ALWAYS IN A DILEMMA WHEN TO and WHEN NOT TO BE REAL because of the DOGMA society FORCEFULLY ATTACHED with our PROFESSION. Isn't more HARSH to be put into a situation that you've got to pretend you're doing fine even though you're not? As my final opinion to this, I always make it a point to separate my PERSONAL LIFE TO MY PROFESSIONAL ONE but in doing that I SUFFERS the MOST when the community keep a very WATCHFUL EYE to the extent that MY PERSONAL LIFE is being drag to supplicate in my PROFESSIONAL ONE. Having said that, I just want everyone to know that we are what we live our life in but just like the WEATHERMAN said, 'WE ARE GOING TO EXPERIENCE SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORM IN SOME PART OF THE COUNTRY TILL THE END OF THE LA NIÑA" end of quote. I'm very thankful to those REAL people to get and understand what I'm trying to convey. I still believed that AFTER THE RAIN COMES THE RAINBOW...

Well in many ways, children may in fact see teachers more then their parents for years. They might only see parents for about half as many hours during the day then they will see their teachers during those years. There are just a lot of times however where we forget that teachers will and can have messed up lives, with a lot of issues as much as the next person. Of course, there are just going to be a lot of times where teachers tend to be shoved right under a more direct microscope. Often times by parents who don't have it that much more together than the teachers that they are criticizing. It is just one of those things where teachers get held to a high standard because of how many children they are. Of course, if they are composed and professional in their public life, then who cares what they do on their own time, unless it is illegal.

the teaching profession is a noble calling unlike any other careers. if you are a teacher, you don't teach only academics but most of all, you mold the character of the children. you are the one who builds the person they are. the students listen to you, see you, and follow you. the even believe you more than their parents sometimes. your role as a teacher is not secluded within the four walls of your classroom but it extends throughout the community. you many not be perfect but you have to be closest to perfect as you can. morality is a big concern because that is the foundation of the values of a person. the class is a family where the teacher is the parent. come to think of it, how can you be a parent to 30 or 60 or even more students if you cannot be a good parent to only a couple of kids you have at home? being a parent includes preserving the family. if the teacher himself was the one who wrecked the family, how could he face his class which is also his family? it is sad, but that is it. as they say, "a teacher is a teacher is a teacher". if you can't be a teacher who builds people with character, be an engineer and build houses.

Majority of people view teacher as a very well-learned person in most of the civil society, he/she is tasked with the responsibility to educate their children and the younger generation that ultimately will become the leader of a nation in various field and industry. So basically they are look upon as role models that will show good example for their children and make them into intelligent beings.

Hello oilegorrj, In INDIA we always look up to the teachers with great respect and treat them like our parents. Its true that teachers are considered to be the role models imagine my kids of 3 years who go to playway and act like their teachers at home.Imagine how much the teachers are coppied by the kids and then how can you expect a teacher having 2 wives what an impact it will have on the kids.

Teachers are molders. We will not be educated well without them. Good teachers are good role models and worst teachers do exist too. What I find most rewarding about that profession is the feeling that you have made a good impact in someones life.

I think everyone should try to be a role model to kids. If a teacher is seen out in public all the time drunk thats going to make her look bads and kids wont have anything to look up to. Teachers are college educated and should try to keep up a good reputation to go along with the career that they are in. But lets face it they are real people and outside of school they have lives too.

Teachers are supposed to educate students the right things. So they must follow what has been taught. Not to follow the real attitudes of teachers at home.
