Preparing for doomsday

This is a pretty morbid topic. In 2011, everything was about doomsday this and doomsday that. There was even a show on Discovery Channel about "Doomsday Preppers". Some people scoff at this and call them insane. But it really isn't a bad idea to be prepared for "doomsday". Doomsday can be any catastrophe that prevents you from carrying on with your daily life and routine. For this event, I highly advice everyone to be prepared. Here are some tips: 1. Be physically fit. You can have all the preparation in the world, but if you're not fit enough, it just might be for naught. 2. A survival pack. A survival pack is a bag you can easily grab which contains necessary items to ensure your survival for at least 2 weeks. 3. A sturdy knife. A knife has lots of uses and does not require a power source. You can also use it as a weapon if the need arises. Aside from these, you should go out of your way to learn a lot of skills that will ensure your survival. Read a lot of books and then go out and practice. Two things I recommend: Learn how to fix and drive a motorized vehicle and learn how to handle a handgun.

No, i do not think your topic is morbid and I've seen those shows in Discovery channel. I must admit that I'm a real life prepper, and I had been a prpper long before all these things came out, actually it's not the end of the world that I'm preparing for ( you would need more to prepare for that), it's the natural disasters that keeps getting bigger and more powerful that concerns me. I think in our country (Philippines), our main concern should be focused more towards earthquakes, typhoons and unpredictable flooding. I have weeks supply of food and water ( i keep it separated from what we consume and add whenever possible or if we consume them), I see to it that the medicine cabinet is always well supplied, that we have kerosene for fuel and diesel for our AUV, we have all kinds of equipment from led lights, hard hats, life jackets, battery powered radios, power inverter etc... and all kinds of survival tools and clothing, we even have a provision to go up the roof incase water level goes up although there is no flood in our city, everything seems to be unpredictable these days like what happened in Marikina, Mindanao and lately the Visayas. I don't see anything wrong with being prepared, people can scoff and laugh but just don't try taking away what I have in case disaster hits (i pray none)cause I would be ready for that too. I don't want to be part of those people in long lines fighting for food and relief that we see on T.V. so often these past few days after the Visayas quake, we can't rely on our Government either, many will perish if we do so, we have to be self reliant as much as possible, we can't rely on those politicians. Yes prayer is the most important thing, it will save us for what we did not prepare for, have a nice day.

Hey there chipseterkhan, I think everything you said here is vital for everybody's survival if the time arises, i have thought about what will happen if natural disaster strikes and everybody is unequipped famine and fights over food will occur and that no one will be safe if the earth keeps trashing everything around, but better be prepared most of the time people that survived certain calamities and dangers unconsciously had some kind of preparation, in floods great swimmers survived, in earthquakes engineers and architects have an edge they understand the travel of the quakes they can survive and in more brutal situations those with military or survival training are more adept to survive. So i guess better be prepared than sorry and besides all of this stuff that was on the list are consumable and very helpful in the future, if your fit you can avoid heart problems and certain cancers, or a lot of health issues.Food you stuck is something that you can eat and just easily replace right and the skills well the skills you can have forever very usable in daily life and certain circumstances. Thanks for this chipesterkhan.

I think that being prepared is very smart. If this 'doomsday' thing never happens then we have extra stuff on hand for camping and such. If it does we are prepared. We have some things ready and others not. There is a container store here that I would like to visit sometime and get some large water containers. I wrote a article last year on how to run a generator.

It is now a world of peace. What you've got to prepare is how you can find a safe place away from natural disaster like earthquake, landslide, mountain eruption. You are not going into the jungle like Rambo to fight those who/that attacks you. What's a handgun for? We would fight the devastating nature. We don't need it, bro.

@yanzalong, "it's better to have any kind of equipment in a disaster situation and not need it than need something and not have it" I do agree with chipesterkhan that some things should be used as a last resort

Those tips are really useful in dealing with disasters. It is necessary to have those survival kits, aside from staying alert with what is about to happen. However, if it is really will be "Doomsday"...all those will be rendered useless too...oh, well, I just hope we won't be needing those, doomsday or not.=)

Wow those are some powerful tips for a powerful time if it ever arises. Lets hope it doesn't though. Last year some of us probably thought it was close to doomsday with how the freaky weather took a turn many times, and it is still happening in Europe as we speak. I'm afraid your worries aren't at all far fetched either and to prepare for something like this is just unimaginable.

i'll try to be a little bit more specific in the next couple of posts. I want to discuss doomsday prepping more in depth :D

To prepare for it, is practical, not unimaginable, never know when the next natural disaster is gonna be near you.
