Messenger mayhem !!!

Hi dudes Of late I have been seeing people using whatsapp messenger . On asking them , they said that it is better than standard messengers like google chat our nimbuzz and ebuddy . But then I really don't understand the logic . Whatsapp still uses internet connection through GPRS or wifi to send messages which is the same as in other messengers . So what's the big deal in using whatsapp and BBM over other normal messengers ??

it is bettter in the matter of being able to reach bb abd other mobiles fast!! and in any time !!! it helps in alot of situations , i'm thinkng on starting to use it myself :)))
