Have you ever had a surprise birthday party?

I have a group of friends back in our province and it has been a tradition to throw a surprise birthday party whenever it is one's birthday. The challenging part is that since it has been a tradition, it is expected that there will be a surprise, which actually defeats the purpose of the surprise, so we have to be creative and unique so as to make sure that the surprise is gonna be different and really unexpected. The part I like here is that I am the one who always come up with a unique idea. It is always a blast. The part I DON'T like here is that I am the one who always come up with a unique idea. When it is my birthday, the only surprise there is, is that there is no surprise at all, or even a party. All of a sudden, people are busy, can't make the time, cat needs a surgery, stuff like that. I believe that a person's birthday is the one, single day, when friends and families can make one feel special. I have a "Don't Miss" policy. There are hundreds of ways to make a person feel special on that single day of the year they most deserve it, even if you are not around. Have you been thrown a surprise birthday party? What was your best birthday party experience like?

Bithday parties are something special, that is true. I use to make only my own parties when I have a birtday, but also I am participatieng with something on the parties of my friends. But makeing a suprise is not easy deal. You must be creative to make up something. I am not sure if I understand you well, but if you can not be at the birthday party of your friend, it has to serious and others should understand it. I never see a problem with it. But everything depends on the particular person.

That's alright if you can't be present at a friend's party. Like I said in my post, there so many ways to make a person special on their birthday even if you're not around. It's true it requires creativity, so that will be the challenge. I think at least you need to stimulate your mind to make someone special to you feel special indeed.

hi! i cannot forgot the surprise birthday i had during my 18th. i was at work when my male friend came with my sister. they brought a cake. though we are just few that moment, i am so happy because that was my very first time to celebrate my birthday. it so nice when someone remember. in our family, we don't celebrate because we are far from each other. how i wished someday, i could celebrate it with my whole family with our kids.

That's not bad either, if you ask me. The only difference is you have visibility to the preparations. That's actually nice because you can witness first hand how people work together to celebrate you.

I did have one the last time, it was not a party, but my hubby and my daughter surprised me...every time they used to wish me sharp at 12'o clock in the night, when the day starts and gifts and cakes and all those, but during my last birthday, they did not wish me in the night but wished me in the morning and did not give me any presents, i was wondering why but did not ask them anything, then later at night around 11:55 p.m., when the day was going to end, i was in my bedroom and my daughter called me from the living room asking for something and when i came out, there was no light, i said what happened to the lights and then my hubby lit a candle and started to sing the birthday song and my daughter put some nice songs, there were cute little decorations and a cake and drinks and presents, i was so very surprised for i had thought that they did not give much importance to my birthday that year....then they said they wanted to celebrate it at the end of the day this time...

I teared up just reading your response. I think you have a got a really sweet husband and daughter. I would have gone to pieces if someone had done something like that for me. I think they figured out the formula to throwing a very good surprise-- turn around something you'd expect, make you wonder, and do things differently.

I can't say that I ever have had a surprise birthday party. It would be interesting but most people around here don't put the time into actually thinking about anybody but themselves. My birthday was the 20th. I told friends waaay ahead of time so they could take off for work and we could have a fun night enjoying each others company and only 4 friends made it. 4 people I was like wow I guess that just goes to show who my friends are. I have thought about throwing a suprise party for a few friends but I never can find the time to do it for them most of them don't like surprises any how (party poopers!) Best bithday party was when I was like 17 and me and my fiancee (now husband) had like a huge party, with a keg and bonfire and everybody just had a really good drunken night that got a little crazy but everything was totally worth it. I hope your next birthday will be wonderful and if I could I would totally throw you a surprise party that you wouldn't forget!! :)

Yes, it was lots of fun. My mother prepared delicious and mouth watering foods in my birthday last year. I have an idea already that there will be a little party but I wasn't expecting it to be that big. My friends are also present in my birthday. I was so happy at that day of my birthday.

Even though I love throwing birthday parties and some have been surprise parties I would hate to have one thrown for me, and everyone knows it so I don't think they ever would.

Once but it's not a party. It was my 16th birthday and we're busy with school activity. I know it's my birthday but I don't even celebrate it. Being a student means have less money and I need to save a lot. So while preparing for an activity, I walked onto the stage to take something from the dorm pres, suddenly everyone started singing the birthday song. There was no cake but it was still sweet. I thought no one remember :')

no i haven't. but i think i ruined what was supposed to be a surprise birthday party for a friend. my friend had to buy something but nobody wanted to accompany her. it was her birthday so i volunteered. as we were leaving the mall i got a text message from another friend. she was telling me they were throwing a surprise party and they needed more time so i was tasked to keep our friend busy. the bad thing is i read the text message out loud. i stopped reading when i realized what it was but it was too late. my friend had figured it out.
