Hello mylotters, i'm from the Philippines. I want to open a bank account which i can use to withdraw money from paypal however, i don't know what will i apply. I don't know if i will get a debit card or ATM card. What are the difference of the two? For now, here in the Philippines, i am choosing between BDO or UNIONBANK. What would suggest that i will get? Debit or ATM card?

good day Erjnsimon, With reference to your main topic, there is not so much difference between the two. the only main distinction is, all ATM cards can be a Debit cards, but not all Debit cards can be ATM cards. As we all know ATM cards are the cards being used to transact with an Automated-Teller-Machine that includes, deposits, withdrawals, utility payments and the likes. While on the other hand, Debit cards are also tag as ATM cards as they can use to pay some purchases being held in a grocery, supermarkets and other establishments. Thus, ATM cards sometimes cannot be use to pay those purchases as the magnetic link which located at the back of the card are not calibrated to be a Debit card. Hence, this is the reason why I have told you that not all ATM cards can be Debit cards. In this regard, you can get an ATM card which can also be use as a Debit card. And between those banks you have mentioned, kindly check it thoroughly if they are accepting Paypal remittances. As I have done my inquiry before on BDO, that, they are not ready yet to accept remittances coming from Paypal. So I did not end up with BDO. Instead, I have tried to look another bank that can accommodate me in managing my funds from my Paypal account. Since this is my hard earned money so I have to choose the most qualified one.

maybe i will just inquire to unionbank instead. you mean that ATM cards are more functional than debit cards? by the way, is it necessary to verify any paypal account? for now, i have no reason to verify my account because still i don't want to purchase products from the Internet. but i think, if i will apply forn an ATM account, i will have to be active on it else they will deduct funds unlike most debit cards which allows you to have zero balance. :)

If your primary purpose of getting one is to have your Paypal account verified, then you should get a debit card. A debit card could also serve as your link to Paypal so you could withdraw from Paypal or put additional funds to it. Also, debit cards don't earn interest but I think there's no maintaining balance as well. An ATM card is only a vehicle for you to withdraw money from your bank account, and you cannot use this card to verify your Paypal account. You need also to maintain a certain amount or else you'll incur fees.

Well one thing I'm sure is debit cards have annual fees as to ATM cards have only maintaining balances. So as long as you pay your annual fee you keep your debit card active even without cash content, while in ATM you have to keep the minimum maintaining balance in that account for it to remain active. As for your Paypal inqiury, go for the union bank since they also offer the eon card. Try logging in to their website and know more about it from there. Good luck!

Go for, PSBANK Mastercard, its better that Unionbank Visa Debit... With PSBANK, you dont have to pay anything upon opening the account, the card looks better than Unionbank's and whenever you withdraw from their ATMs' there's no charge, unlike with unionbank there is. And if you were to withdraw at metrobank atms its 3 pesos only.

I have made a research and I chose Unionbank to withdraw money from paypal because they are link to each other, I am not sure about other banks. There is an annual fee I guess of 350 pesos. I have rcbc atm card but it cannot be used for paypal its just an atm cash card. while unionbank is a debit card, giving you atm card number and bank account number at the same time. I applied online and pick a bank that prints the cards and it is quite fast.

Hi, An ATM card withdraws money from your bank account. If you want to withdraw money from your Paypal account and put it on a credit card, you may need to apply for Paypal's credit card. I hope that helps. Have a great day!

If you have already verified your Paypal account, then, you can just opt for plain bank account. You can withdraw your money there just fine. However, if the purpose for getting a debit card is to verify your Paypal account and at the same time to withdraw money to it, then, go for a UnionBank debit card.
