Hey, I'm from Romania a country in Eastern Europe which includes a smaller former country Transilvania. I'm sure many of you heard about it, mostly because it's where Count Dracula came from. I've watched some episodes from Vampire Diaries, I've watched Twilight and although the stories are nice, interesting, I was wondering how many of you really now who was the one that started the whole vampire legends, myths, stories ( no offence to vampires around the world :) ). So care to answer about the genesis of the vampire species ?

Hi...as far as I know the story/myth did indeed originate from the doings of Vlad Tepesz, who had some horrible ways of dealing with people he didn't like. History relates that he was fond of vicious torture, crucifixions and causing horrible painful deaths to anyone who upset him. I have read that the modern idea of vampires is somehow linked to him,I have seen him referred to as the original Count Dracula, but of course I cannot know for certain if this is all one hundred percent true, for I haven't studied it in any real depth :)

It started from Vlad Tepes, because he had that bloody way of dealing with people they called him bloodthirsty and that's where it escalated from.

Hi vertu007! I am also from Romania, like yourself, but I believe not everybody knows where the story about vampires originated. If you would ask me, thinking that vampires exist, or even inventig vampires for "fun" is of bad taste, thinking why Vlad Tepes was called "Draculea" and " blood thirsty ", and knowing history, and what he actually did. Anyways, you know what they say: If a book is selling good, it means it is a good book... So I can't argue with that.
