Do you agree that you always need to do overtime without pay on your current Job?I did that most the time when they need extra hands, when one employee suddenly absent or AWOL and if they need me to finish a job that needs to be done or rushed.Do you think this is fair? I get stress when my boss is pressuring me.

i don't think that would be fair. my husband is like that. his work time is extended but he is not paid with the overtime. but i know it will pay off someday. don't worry all hardship will be returned to you. just keep working hard and who knows one day, your company will offer you a much higher position with a higher salary of course.

WORK of any nature for that matter necessitates payment by way of sufficient remuneration. In this world of ours nothing in fact is offered for free..no one gives away anything to the other.Enough pay for work done is our moral right.

Princess, it is a pity that some of the bosses are like that, when comes to money. There are a few companies which i ever worked for before, the bosses also unwilling to pay the extra hours which we had to worked daily. Sometimes, the bosses will find some excuses as not to pay those extra money to their staffs. It is really disappointing to work for these type of bosses. Hope you will be able to find a much better pay job soon. Good luck to you...

Hi there Princess051585, Working without pay will not be consider as overtime. As this is a kind of voluntary act that does not asking any monetary value in return. Hence, you might just receive a merit on the good deeds that you have done but not a small penny. However, although this task is not paid, your boss is still your boss. And he has all the right to ask and put pressures on to the task given. And he has all the right to put a deadline on the certain job. Since you have agreed to do the work without pay, that will be fair in the eyes of the management, in the part of your boss. As your good deeds will not require them to lay out any cash at all to pay you. As all they have to do is to say "thank you". However, even your boss does not pay you the money in return, let God see and witness what you have done for the company. Since this is the ministry that God let you to handle. Just let God do pay you in return and for sure, His blessings is right on your way. Cheers.

you have to manage your time efficiently, but then when you need to be a replacement for someone who is absent and you have to fill in that person's shows, i think going over time should be paid. it is okay for me to go overtime on certain times, but most definitely not okay for me to not be paid when i am asked to extend my time especially if someone is not here. it is not my fault they get sick so i can fill for them but i have to paid extra for that because it is not part of my obligation when i signed up.

Job without pay its not a job, its called social services. It is mean that you are just working for good indeed only not because of money. Sometime the money paid for the work we done is equally not fair.

Is that allowed by law?..I supose if you volunteer there is no law, but aslong as you are not getting threatened with the sack if you do not do it. It is an employers duty to pay their staff for work they do for that company, no matter how many hours your contracted to do. Its not fair on you as you probably do alot of hours work not even cash in hand or under the books. I reckon your employer is taking the P*ss! Its ok on the odd occassion to help, but its not ok if is all the time. That employer is getting free labour to line their own company's pockets!
