I guess what you really mean is, excellence in your field produces success. Am I right? Then if that's the point you are bringing up here, I would like to add that to achieve excellence, the prerequisite is "practice". More practice.

Success is important, but sometimes happiness only comes from accepting you level in life, instead of overreaching too much. Trying to become the best in something might cause too much stress instead of enjoyment, depending on how your personality works. Being the best at something is also hard to prove, and you might be caught in a circle of jealousy and pride with someone else. Success, as looked in a social environment, could also mean becoming miserable in searching for it, and since we all die eventually obsessing on getting it might be a futile effort. That doesn't mean we could just give up and stay in bed all our life, it just means that you should just work hard for what you really want, be it in getting a lot of money or becoming a boss at your company. Success is a title that others will apply to you afterwards :D.
