Ducks in my yard

This morning was so funny. It was pouring down raining as always because I am in the state of Washington. The park and pond are at least 5 miles away in our suburbs/rural area. We saw these ducks in the front yard and just started chuckling trying to figure out did they walk that far to come to our house. We fed them some bread and just smiled and shook our heads. My little girl got the most enjoyment out of it. Her eyes opened wide " mommy, mommy there are ducks in the yard"!, then the question arises, "why are ducks in our yard"? We were just as puzzled but they were enjoying the showers on our grass and eating the bread we put out for them. Do ducks travel that far? What were they thinking?
