Two Dove in Preliminary Mating Ritual

I think two dove were in a preliminary mating ritual outside my window today. The were preening and "snuggling" and taking little pecks at each other. Also, they were puffing out their feathers; one was doing this more than the other. After a while they left and the robin who usually hangs out there was back; I don't know if the robin ran them off or what. The robin does seem to be a little territorial with that area. Anyway the whole thing was interesting to notice when ever I passed by the window.

I have often watched with much delight the rhythmic dancing turns of one of the doves in front of its mate. The strange sound it makes on the occasion is quite suggestive of mating process.

On the Bambi movie, isn't that what they call 'twitter-pated'-when birds are doing this???
