There is one recipe that I would really love to try.. But it requires CANDY MELTS.. I don't think it's available here in our country.. Does anyone here know what is the best substitute for candy melts?? Would really appreciate your help..

You can get a similar consistency by melting together chocolate chips (or white chocolate chips if you don't want a chocolate flavor) and shortening. 6 ounces of chocolate chips (or 5 ounces of white chocolate chips) and 1 tablespoon of shortening should be about right. Melt them gently. Courtesy: http://www.quora.com/Are-there-good-substitutes-for-candy-melts (Link to an article on Candy Melts)

Hi Venky This is what I do too. And worst - if I dont have any chocolate chops around, I just boil some chocolate powder diluted in water (or even milk) until it gets thick. And yes you are right about the "gently" thing too.

Thanx for the tip! You both must love baking, too.. :) Is it better if I melt it in the microwave or in a bowl placed on top of simmering water??

Hi Sidhu It's your turn to answer the question. For I just copied and pasted from an article and I don't know anything about it.

You can use chocolate chips or the chocolate bars used for baking. I just think that chocolate melts solidify faster. If you'll use all the melted chocolate at once, it's easier to use the microwave. But if you'll use them for a long time, just like in cake pops where you need to coat each cake pop with the melted chocolate, it's best to use a double boiler (bowl over boiling water) so that you maintain the consistency.

All candy melts are is round discs that are chocolate. I am sure there must be something you can use as a substitute. that being said there are baker's chocoaltes you can melt and get the same effect.

I see.. I have been trying to look for it but can't seem to find any other good substitute.. I just didn't wanna try chocolate bars coz I might not get the same result.. I don't wanna be wasting money at all..
