Home dogs usually tend to like the neighbours than their own owners... This is mainly because their owners usually don't treat them well or love them enough.. I think you all will agree with me..?

Pets are their people. As a professional dog trainer and therapist, I agree with what you're stating about the dog liking the neighbours. However not all dogs are social butterflies, and some tend to just want to kick back and relax at home just like people do. If you people watch, and dog watch you will see many similarities between dog and owner. If that person tends to not have a care or is hugh strung, that dog will tend to be aggressive. Though this is not always true either as there are quiet and withdrawn indiviuals who are shy in society, and have aggressive dogs due to lack of socialization. A dog needs to be socialized if it likes it or not. Socialization is a HUGE factor in a dogs life. It learns respect, and will listen better, as the canine will learn boundaries, and corrections when need be. Dogs can be quite complex to other pets, but if you start them young, and are consistant, there should be no problem. I have seen dogs liking the neighbours better than their owners either due to fear from abuse, or seeing the neighbour as a packmate or playmate, whereas the owner is the top dog (Alpha) and some Alphas are harsh compared to others. Its not that the don't don't like the owner at all, it comes down to a respect issue and will not listen well to the owner when commanded to sit, or lie down. The dog will then choose their owner as a packmate instead of their leader when this happens, and this is when dominance issues arise. It all boils down to what is happening, there could be a billion things going on, and the dog either likes the owner or not. Like humans, you can't like everybody! :-)

Excellent! I think you are quite right! And Wittynet, I think my owner must be like your dad who doesn't like his garden spoilt because the moment the dog is taken down forcefully he is tied up! Hence he must not be liking this and as he is free in my house and plays with my daughter he likes our place!

Wow! I learned a lot from you. That is why our dog Cassandra always visits my cousin and plays with her whenever she has a chance. Cassandra and her mother Piola are always inside their kennel and not allowed to get out. They can only get out and take a bath if I'm home. My father is so strict, and he doesn't want them to play in our garden for he loves his plants so much, and he's afraid that our two dogs will cause a big damage to his plants.

I don't agree. Dog will not bear grudges even thou you have scold or beat it. While it may be neglect, but when the owner pat or whistle for it, it will be come running, feeling excited and happy.

I think so because my father sometimes beats one of our dogs whenever it's making so much noise. She always wants to get out of her kennel and play with other dogs. I always tell my father not to beat her and think that if he is in the same situation like our dog, he'll also do something to escape. I never see our dog angry with my father. She's usually wagging her tail when my father is feeding her and her daughter Cassandra.

This is not a general rule. Some dogs may act like you say but most of them should like there owners more than anything in the world. I agree with you that there are people who don't treat their dogs well. Their dogs must fall into the category of dogs who love the neighbors more. I know such a case: it is my neighbor's dog, Calu. My neighbors give him food and water, he also has a shelter (a wooden crate) but the dog craves for human contact and he is more than happy when we're around. He likes when we speak to him and most of all he loves to be pet. My neighbor said his dog loves us more than he loves his masters and this is the true.

hi tw, Well if your neigbour feeds your dog and you are not then it has reason but if you treat your dog in a good way there is no reason the dog will act in this way. Maybe your dog is just friendly that's why Animals are sort like human too if you treat them right then they will treat you good in return. happy mylotting

I agree with you. Dogs know who are nice to them and in return they're also nice to these people. They're always happy wagging their tail whenever they're with someone who care for them.

I never agree with you, unless you own a dog and you treated your dog badly that it seeks comfort from your neighbors. I have dogs at home and I swear all my dogs are treated very well and cared as well.

Thanks for replying.. But its the other way round.. Our landowners dog is at our place most of the time and likes to sleep with us! His food is also sent up for him... Sometimes its irritating, I too love dogs and when we had dogs at home we use to let them sleep with us on the beds!

I absolutely 100% DISagree with you. I am a dog owner and this is not the case for my bub. I do not treat him badly and I most definitely love him enough. And, in fact, he barks and growls at anyone who comes near our home, including the neighbors, to protect our family. I'm assuming you don't have a dog or, if you do, you don't treat your dog well. The statement you made is completely false and lacking any factual evidence.

I am sorry if I have hurt your sentiments.. but I too have kept dogs and believe me we never let our dogs out of our sight.. As my husband has a transferable job we had stopped keeping dogs.. but now on coming to Jodhpur and seeing how our landlord's dog is, I have made that statement..and above all they give their dog only milk and bread! Poor guy! I really pity him as we are not suppose to give him anything to eat...

It depends upon the owner(s) of the pet dogs. If they do not treat them well or some careless attitude towards their pets, pets will surely go somewhere else for their needs.
