I'd like to recommend a few books to you. The first one is «head first java»,it's easy to understand and illustrated, using dialogue to explain, and allows you to get a relaxed start. Then , you can read two books called«Core Java,Volume I:Fundamentals»and«Core Java,Volume II:Advanced Features», written by Cay S.Horstmann and Gary Cornell. The last one I recommended is «Thinking in Java», written by Bruce Eckel, it's a famous book about Java, and very comprehensive. So, that's all, hope you like it, Good luck!

I think www.w3schools.com is the best place for learn JavaScript, beside JavaScript you also can learn about PHP, ASP, HTML, CSS, and many more programming language
