tags what are they

i cant seem to figure it out but everyone here says use them. what are they and how do you use them?

Tags are simple words or short phrases that are given by other users to different topics in order to make them more accesible and easier to find. If you can see at the top left of the page there is a search bar. Whatever you type in there looks for those tags, and so you can only respond to discussions you are interested in.
