Yahoo, CNN, NPR, NYTime... what do they mainly focus on ? from a English learner

I am a English learner from China. I want to know more fist hand English version news from U.S and Europe website. I know some like Yahoo, CNN, NPR, The economist, Time,NYTimes,Reutes and etc..but i can't distinguish which part they mainly focus on, what are their characteristic, and which is more popular in your own country? So I really need your suggestions that 1st. which website focus on domestic news esp.U.S, int'l news, politics and etc. which website do you usually get news from if you live in a English speaking country? 2nd. I am a big European Soccer fan, I am tied of those second hands news translated by Chinese, So is there a website including all news of main European Soccer league like England ,Spain , Italy? Just like Espn Sports in US.
