Poinsetta

I have a poinsetta that is not doing too well. I try to water it with icecubes since it is more controlled with water and I do this about once a week. Is this too little or too much? I do notice that it doesn't get much if any sunlight where it sits now and wonder if this is to blame? Any suggestions?

I bought a poinsetta for my grandmother back in December as a Christmas present. It has been doing very well and we've not needed to really water it or anything. It doesn't get much sunlight if at all. I believe I was told by the floral lady once mentioning it, that it doesn't need much sunlight and to keep it in a dark place in the remaining months of the year until Christmas again. I forget the other care instructions she gave but keeping it out of direct sunlight seems to be what keeps my red poinsetta happy.

Hmm that is very interesting! Maybe it gets too much water then...honestly our family should just stick with cacti since these always grow well in our home. Everything else seems to die :( Thanks for the tip!

Actually the poinsettia usually goes downhill after Christmas, and you need to cut it back, I suggest you search it online for sure. I would say to soak it thoroughly then let it dry completely. The ice may be chilling the roots. In the summer they go outside. In September you put it into a dark room after eight hours of light, if I remember correctly. Believe it or not, the non hybrid ones grow as big as bushes in the southern most parts of the US.
