Getting tired and bored with my job

The place I work at isn't bad. The first year I joined the team, I received a bonus of 1.5 month salary and an increment and 2nd year bonus of 2 months salary again with increment. The boss is okay, there are 2,3 workmates who are making me headaches, but most of the time it's bearable. Overall, the environment isn't bad. Things at the office are firm, organized and flexible. I have a good relationship with the HR personnel and my head of department. Applying for leaves are not complicated, well...everything seems so nice and perfect, but truth is I am getting bored and exhausted with the workload. As business is picking up, our business network have grown larger, so do my job tasks and I am the person-in-charge with just ONE staff under me. We are so tired chasing deadlines and my main problem now is lack of manpower. I did bring up this matter to the management, but the head said need 'something' to show to the GM to approve for hiring a new staff. Sigh. It has never crossed my mind of resigning before as I give myself at least 2 or 3 more years, but these days, there are times when I feel I should go. I don't know how long I can hold on because the situation can sometimes becomes stressful. Have you ever in this situation or if you can help me to point out why I should stay and why I shouldn't, I would appreciate very much. Thanks in advance.

This becomes more and more common everywhere. The management want to hire a minimum of staff and get maximum result. It's the same in my work - people drop off all the time but our tasks increase. The salaries stay the same which means that we are badly paid. I'm over 50 years now and I have no choice. My advice to you is to search for a better job.

Hi, Fannitia. Thank you for your advice. It's true about it being common everywhere. Even at my previous workplace, the politics, manpower management, people etc. were very bad. Worst than what I have now, so, I am consider lucky to have what I have now except for work overloaded. I am unable to manage my time as I always prioritize in quality, but because of short of manning, I can't produce more which is frustrating. I wish to believe there is no better job than my job now, but then again if I don't try it will be too late where at the end of the day it will leave me no choice.

You don't need to leave your job but you can start searching for a better one. You are still young and you have chances. I didn't do this when I was at your age and then it was too late.

Yes, I understand what you mean. I am now searching for better opportunity for me to grow and explore while I still have the chance to do it. I do have a friend who's a few years older than me and now embarking on a new venture, which sounds interesting. Thanks.

I think everyone of us already experienced what you have now. I think you really need to have aconcrete evidences to show to the GM that another staff is needed to cover some of your workload. I think making a list of your workload together with your staff under you can be one of the evidences to prove that you really need another staff. Just make a convincng justification. I think you are just stressed about your workload and some tasks in your office that is why you are thinking of resigning. Me too, I happened to think of resigning not because of the workload I have or even not because of the boss. Our boss knows my work and what I have contibuted in the company. It is because of some colleagues that are keep on telling our boss some bad things on me. I am just happy that my boss does not easily believes in them. Because it it, I am still here in the same company and proving my colleagues that they are wrong.

Hi, Asdomencil. Thanks for your suggestion. I would do that, list everything down as of present and show it to my head of department although I am sure she already knows, but I would point out how one tasks takes some time to complete with all the never ending follow ups. Ugh, I hate office politics especially if there are those who badmouthing you. Glad you were able to prove them wrong. As for me, I will still be looking for other opportunities. If the company decides to hire another staff before it's too late, I will stay. I might change my mind afterwards, but who knows until it actually happens. Thanks.

Hi, I think everyone will go through that stage you are going through. I, myself, experienced it. I am working in a company for 3 years now and I am fed up with all the work load and all those things. I am going to resign and start doing what I really want to do.. Some people might think I am crazy, but I know what I am doing.. :) I just think it is time when I start pursuing my dreams.. :) Good luck for you.. :)

Hi, HL. Yes, that's the correct word, fed up. Have you found another job of your interest? Actually, I am thinking of having my own business...but I need this job as I don't have other source of income for my monthly expenses. Now if I can't find a better job, I truly hope there is some improvement in the nearest future. Thanks for your kind wish and wihing you all the best, too.

This is a common problem of every individual who work as an employee in a certain company. Lack of manpower is the very core problem of every company. I may say if you think you are not well compensated of the salary you are receiving from the job that you are doing. Then you might as well resign from it, but remember that it is difficult to find any job immediately. So if i were you, you might as well stick to your job, i know the management will hire more employee and give you additional staff if they think that there company needs it. Besides if the demand is so huge naturally the profit of the company also increases and in order to maintain their good service and their client from not going away. Then they will supply more employee to patch the gap. It is like a law of supply and demand.

Hi, JB. In theory what you were saying is true, but not all company will practise it and when you said you know when the company sees additional employees are required, I don't agree with you. We are on the top 3 of making profits and that proves it, but sometimes, the management will only notice or take action if people are resigning. I hope there is a solution so that I don't have to tender my resignation. It's true that it is difficult to find a job, there must be something that will make us dissatisfy. I like my job now, but I am so tired. Sometimes, it affects my mood, but I have to stick to my job until I find something worth to try. I want to leave, but at the same time I am still hoping. Anyway, thanks for your advice.

My advice comes from being unemployed the past four months...so you know what I'm going to say, lol. I beg of you, please do not leave your job unless you already have another one -preferably, a better one- already lined up. Also, check the past few years of that company's (the one you'd transfer to) history and make sure they are growing or at least not plummeting. Not enough people check the stock price history of the companies they want a job with and then a year after they're hired, they are laid off because the company ran out of money from hiring you -or other reasons, obviously. Lol. So basically, what I'm saying is follow your heart, and do what makes you happy, but you must realize that the job economy is still not that great and you need to have financial security (but I don't know what you're savings are like so you may be all set for all I know). I wish you the best of luck! :)

Hi, Abby. Haha, yeah, I know how it feels to be unemployed unless I have plenty of money and don't have to worry about going to work. I would never leave my job until I land on a new one. I'd rather be in this situation than regret with any drastic action. You are absolutely right that we should check on the new company's history and background and not desperate to get out and forget about all these. In the mean time, I will stick with my job and have to bear with it. Who knows while searching for a new opportunity, there is improvement at my workplace. I feel much better now. Hope it stays this way coz there are times I just can't take it, but my savings are not stable yet hehe. I really appreciate your advice. Thanks.

I think it is normal for you to feel tired and bored. You seem burned out because of lack of manpower in your team. I am actually in the same boat as you are but I have been in same place for almost 9 years now and I really think I should go except the boss has asked me to stay a few more years.

Hi, Ricebird. Very true. If you are a good worker, the boss will keep you and sometimes, you are comfortable with your job that you just don't want to start all over again. I really need a break, but usually after I come back from holidays, I would be even busier because my work is piling up as my staff will not be able to do all those tasks. I understand it coz it happens to me if she goes on leave. I hope there is some excitement in my job with new plans for improvement. Hope when you stay back because your boss asked to, you are given more benefits. Thanks for responding.

I have never had that situation though I know people who have. I love my job. I am a teacher and I just love children. I get a little tired sometimes but because I love what I do that tiredness does not last lone I suggest you start looking for something you love doing and try to find a job in that field. Don't give up what you are doing though until you find something else.

Hi, AA. Yeah, some jobs are tedious. Well, my job is considered one of them. Dealing with customers from different walks of life. I can say I do love my job, but things have changed at work. The job becomes too demanding and we need at least another staff so that we can be more efficient in delegating the job tasks. I am supposed to supervise and now I have to do all the job as well. It is tiring and sometimes getting bored because we have not completed the old tasks yet and the new ones are already piling up. Appreciate your suggestion and I am actually looking forward to more future plans as briefed by the GM this afternoon.

Yeah, it happens all the time. It is what they call pressure or stress but people easily get over this through rest, exercise, getting the right nutrients your body needs. Stress often comes to us when we lack one of these.

Hi, Cutie. Don't forget not all people can easily handle stress especially when it happens everyday. It happens to me coz I am too tired. Yeah, I need those rest and you have a good point. Thanks for sharing.

hi there, i felt the same when i was still working a long time ago. i got so tired of it because it was stressful and demanding. but now that i haven't been working, i am looking for challenges again and want to go back to work again. i hope you can keep up with all of it but if you can't take it anymore, maybe you can start looking for another job , just as back up, and if you think the other one is better, you can transfer there.

Hi, Cherish. Those challenges at work actually make us feel alive, don't you think? If I have a choice I don't want to start all over again and I hope I can cope until they see which areas to improve. I did try to find a job that is of my interest, but it wasn't easy. So, I guess I have to wait and don't rush in making any decision, but still I will keep an eye for any job opening. Just this afternoon we have our quarterly staff party and we might have hope. Yeah, fingers crossed. Anyway, thanks for your advice.

if you're not happy then find another job. if you're not happy but you really need this job then just do the best you can to enjoy it. life's short. we should spend it with something that makes us happy.

Hi, SOS. I don't know. I probably think too much of my job tasks and I've forgotten that there are things that make me happy at work. If I find another job, will my problem be solved? You are right. As I need a job and I happen to have one at the moment, I should think of happy things and do my best. Thanks for the advice.
