it's so tasteless!

sick - caught the cold, so sick

I have been DYING since last Friday of a chest infection/flu/cold type thing. It’s awful. I’m coughing so hard I’ve made myself physically sick. I have aches and pains.. and everytime I leave the house because I’m getting cabin fever, within an hour I want to crawl back into bed again! I had to call in sick from work on Monday and Tuesday because I literally had no voice, and wouldn’t even have been able to answer the phones, even if I wanted to! It has been an utter nightmare! And the worst part is, nothing has a taste! I feel like I’ve been eating cardboard since Friday! I have no sense of smell at all, so I’ve had a shower twice or three times a day since I got sick incase I stink. What is THAT all about? Lol! .. but the taste thing is bothering me. My partner even took me to Nando’s to see if some serious spice could open my taste buds.. but nothing has worked. I got so desperate on Monday afternoon I was even googleing ways to get your taste back lol! But to no avail.. everyone said the same thing. Just have to wait and it’ll come back in time.. but it’s been 6 days now, and I can feel myself wasting away because I don’t even want to eat because I can’t taste anything lol! Why does it DO THAT? Lol! What do you think of this?

This is because you are sick, I don't know the reasoning behind it, but other than getting better, I don't think you can get your taste buds active again. But here is something that is good for you, help you get over your cold quicker, and since you can't taste anything, you might be able to drink it. (Of course the taste doesn't bother me, but it does bother some) This tea is made with a tablespoon each of vinegar (preferably apple cider or my fav raspberry, not white vinegar)and honey in a cup of hot water. The vinegar will boost your immune system and the honey will soothe your throat. I hope you are feeling better soon..

Well actually, both white and malt vinegar would probably have the same effect, just that apple cider and raspberry vinegar has somewhat of a pleasant taste to it. You don't have any flavored vinegar where you live?

Here is the name brand our store sells: http://www.heinzvinegar.com/products-apple-cider-vinegar.aspx But we buy the generic brand because I purchase it in gallon size and it is less expensive to buy the store brand. This is sold right next to the white vinegar and I am somewhat surprised that any country that sells white vinegar would also sell apple cider vinegar. Oh, BTW, did you somehow send your cold over the net? I woke up this morning with a headache, sore throat, and just feeling awful..J/K I know that isn't possible, but isn't it interesting, here I am trying to help you feel better and now I have to take my own medicine.. Time for some tea..

hey i am a medical student and i can tell you that all what you feel is because of the flu and its complication all what you need is to take some rest and drink hot fluids and ask your doctor for effective treatment. after 1 week you will be good and your taste bud will be normal and you will be better than before. DON'T worry

I hope you get well soon enough. Your sense of taste will return, I'm just not sure when or maybe when your illness passes. Smelling and tasting go together. If you cannot smell, then you cannot taste as well. What we actually perceive as 'taste' is actually smell. This is the reason why it's hard to detect flavor when we have an illness involving our sense of smell, much of what you are experiencing right now. So I suggest that you take a rest, take your medications if there are any, and don't be stressed with it. I hope you get well soon!

oh wow really? so what about people that loose their sense of smell in an accident or something? can they not taste then no?
