Why do more and more people turn to work-at-home jobs?

We are seeing a new trend in making money and this trend is the work-at-home people leaving their office jobs behind. What makes people turn from their regular income jobs into an endeavor that may risk their family's welfare if they didn't really find a way to earn a decent income working on their computer in their own home? Why is this trend becoming more and more popular as more people tries their hand in work-at-home opportunities?

It is convinient, no boss to tell you what you need to do, no travel expenses and you can work anytime, anywhere but I would not resign from a regular job unless I am sure that my online work is good enough to provide me with what I need.

Convenience, being your own boss and less expenses are all very attractive benefits I believe. Yes, for those who have a regular job I think if you wanted to start working at home, a good plan is to start searching opportunities online without resigning to your job. The moment you find something and it starts earning enough to leave your job, then maybe that would be the perfect moment to give full effort and start having the dream lifestyle of working in the convenience of your own home.

I agree with you. Do not resign from you job unless you are sure of what you are getting yourself into.

That's right. One can't just dump a full time paying job for a temp job online. Nothing is stable and totally secure with online jobs. I guess what's also attractive about this line is that salaries are taxfree and of course, you get to have more time at home with the family. You can also work multiple jobs since most of the available jobs don't require your presence for a full 8 hours.

I don't think anyone would risk,by leaving their full time jobs. They might be interested in part time job which are mostly work from home. This might be an attempt to increase their earnings and to reach their pocket expenses... Work at home jobs provide a lot of leisure and freedom. They involve no stress... So most prefer them.

Well said. Anyway, to be honest I still am looking for more ways to earn because my income is good to at least to support myself, but it won't be good enough when I decided to get married in the future. I feel good though that I'm on the right track and I'm finding more and more ways of increasing my income online.

Probably they should try to work part-time online and see if they can get extra income doing them. Later on, they might find out that their part-time online job's income is enough to sustain their family's needs, then that's the time they can quit their job, maximize their online income and live a more comfortable working condition...more leisure and freedom, as you said...

Yes,safety should be given first importance...risking their jobs and working online, won't serve their purpose unless they are extremely succesfull in their respective fields to sustain for a longer period.

Coz working at home is easier than working outside .You do not need to do what your boss command you to do. You have your own timetable ,do interesting job without being employed by anyone.Although only few people can really earn enough money online to support their family welfare, we are all tend to employ ourselves at home.

It's interesting you pointed out feijiangjun that only few people can really earn good money working at home. Planning to work at home has become a really big challenge to those who dream of someday doing it and leaving their routine work behind. Most people desires that kind of convenience, and doing what interests us is another thing...we have a free choice and a wide choice online unlike in a regular job, if you're a secretary you only do secretary work. Online, you can be a salesman, a marketer, a business owner, a writer, an investor and many other types of work done by one person...you! Thanks for pointing that out lekhya.

i think the reason why it is popular for people to work at time is that the internet makes it possible .nowadays as the internet is more and more popular ,people can do many things by using the net. the whole world is just like a big family, people can work, shop ,chat, etc, online.the technology is so great.

Well, I agree that there are good sides and bad sides in working at home while there are also good sides and bad sides in working in the office. So generally speaking, everyone still chooses what he or she feels is best for himself or herself. Having said that, in my case I would rather work at home than in the office.

Hello friend, You are right. Now-a-days internet is a very good place to earn money. But I don't think so it is permanent. So work in the other place is also very important for safe. Have a nice day.

When I search the web, I often saw opportunities that are available for moms. I hope you find something that fits your needs and preference. One possible work online for moms I guess is blogging. There are also others like data entry work, and if you live somewhere in America or Europe I have heard many from those countries earn well from taking surveys. There are a lot more options available, and I hope you found one that's right for you :)

Hello friend, I don't know about the matter. It is not a good idea. Working in home is a time passing. I think the lazy persons are think that. Have a nice day.

yes I think it's a matter of "if you can work at home enough to feed your family, then go ahead" is a good guideline. If not, then it would be necessary to continue working in your job until the time you find a way to earn more online by doing it part time and making your online business grow overtime. Having said that, many people working outside their homes have really satisfying work and others even have tremendous pay that an option to work elsewhere becomes non-existent. So it still boils down to everyone's free choice depending on different circumstances.

Hello For me since I been working two job for most of my working years like 20 year just being home would be so nice. Save on gas, maintence on the car... I work when I want and if work a lot hours or little depending on what I got paid etc.. I would be able to take walks and sleep in longer. I am early person so if I can sleep till 8:00am that would be wonderful. If I needed to errand or take a vacation when I want and no telling me how to do something or that I did it wrong according to them. Thanks Unique16

So far with less than two weeks being active in mylot and starting about 20 discussions already, this discussion I created about working at home and the possibility of doing so has created the most response by far. It only shows that at least a lot of mylotters wanted to work-at-home and resign from their day-to-day jobs, and I can see that some of them are already working at home. This is a trend which I can see that would only grow as years go by. There's nothing more convenient than working at home and probably the most stress-free way to work ever! Anyway I don't pretend to earn so big, but in my particular circumstances what I earn now from home is good enough to leave my day-to-day jobs I had before. I earn better at home because as you say unique16 that there would be less expenses..I save on gas as well as no need to have food expenses outside when oftentimes your colleagues would urge you to eat out sometimes. Anyway, good luck to you and hope for the best :)

as for my case, i am a working mom but i wanted to stay at home for my son so i am looking for a home-based work so at least i can help out with our family needs. it is a big risk anyone can take especially those already earning well working outside home. you need to be patient and i know some bloggers, mommy bloggers particularly who have established their names and is earning well, much more than their office work. so that is my inspiration, if they can, why can't i?

That saying 'If they can do it, I can too' is a good reminder for me to push myself more. You know my income is still not good enough to retire on and I can see a lot of people working online claiming that they are earning certain amounts of money which are staggering. So if they can do it, I can also do it is a great motivation to work harder and seek your sights higher and find greater goals for yourself. Anyway, blogging seems to be working with many mothers. But I can see many men earn their living with blogging. This is also something I wanted to learn myself, and I'm planning to do the steps necessary to start learning more about it. Good luck to you shylade in your blogging dreams :)

I have similar sentiments with you shylade. If they can do it, why can't I. Even though I'm already earning online, but income is still so small compared to many people who claims they are working a certain amount every month. I still have a long way to go to my ideal income working at home. So if they are able to earn that big, I know if I put the necessary effort and dedication someday I will be able to earn like they do or at least close to it.

yes, I love mylot too because of so many good people helping each other...it's a good community and I say that even if I have been active for less than 2 weeks. It's pay won't allow you to retire but it could be a great source of information that you can use to gain greater income. There are many who share their opportunities that really pays them and others teach us ways to earn more through other means like teaching how blogging works and the likes. I can see that generally we can find good-natured people in mylot.

No boss when we work at home, no pressure to complete this and that, don't worry about traffic jams as going to the office every morning, can take anytime to rest, don't need to wait till evening after working time as in the office...if i find down a good income work at home, i will change also. Going to the office every day from 8 am to 5 pm seems so boring now..lol..

I can guess more and more are dreaming of working at home. And all the things you mentioned are really good reasons for dreaming about it. Not so many people though are able to generate the income online that is can make one retire from them, and I'm also so far away from that position. Anuyway, thanks for the feedback and who knows...maybe someday you find something online that could make you quit your job :)

Why? Maybe because with the fast paced world of today full of competition and stress people would like to do away with it. So they are seeking jobs which can still make them feel comfortable. So where are most people comfortable to be? In their homes. Also, with the advent and development of the internet, information technology makes it easy to outsource work in the comforts of home. With all the changes the world is coming in to, it all leads to people trying to adjust and turning to work at home.

"Home sweet home" as they say, and if we find a way to work-at-home and create a good income doing so, it would also be appropriate to say "work sweet work". Yes, with the information technology and a lot of means available, there would be a lot of opportunity for everyone to finally work-at-home.

Yes, convenience is the key word for those trying to look for home based jobs. Imagine the convenience of working at home where you are comfortable. Also, imagine working without commuting or going over the traffic outside just to work. Add the fact that you can sleep more hours now because you are sure not to get late and the convenience of not having to go out when it is already flooding and raining. And there will be no better reason to stay home with your loved ones in the house. And yo do that while working. That is convenience!

it is great if you know what are the legit sites and legit business to go to, otherwise you'll get scammed online. so i have a question besides mylot what other home based jobs that are legit the best to do?

Hi mathejo, what you asked can already be a new discussion you can make :) Actually what's working for me now for sure are first of all those two work online that I have that gives me regular income, and they are English conversation practice online with Koreans, and chess lessons online at Babaschess, as both of these work gives regular income. With these two, it allowed me to leave my work behind and start working at home full time. This only shows the potential and variety of finding opportunities online are really big...depending on your particular talents and preferences. Now I am also involved with JSS Tripler which has so high potential to give me regular income that could only get bigger and bigger because I have a good plan to back it up. When I started in JSS Tripler ( for anyone who doesn't know it, it's an investment site that gives you 2% commission daily ), my 2 % daily commission is only $2.2, having invested only $100, but now that I'm almost 75 days in JSS my daily income has reached $7.60 daily! This investment thing is not that easy, though as there is some study you still have to make like how the matrix in JSS works, but there are parts in JSS that is so simple to understand and execute you can immediately start investing without fear...because they have this 'restart feature' that would make JSS indefinitely sustainable for years and years to come... well at least hopefully they're right.

I know some people who took the risk of leaving their regular job and settled on working at home instead. Convenience is one of the primary reasons for such move, especially for those who would rather spend some time with their family than brave the long hours of going to and from work, not to mention the 8 hours of work time away from their family. A lot of earning opportunities are available now through internet, so a lot is taking a reroute. For some it really works, but not everyone has the same story. Whatever floats their boat, I guess.

Yes i can say that everyone has different experiences and probably working at home is not for everyone. Working at home takes discipline, and some people who can't stop playing online games isn't fit for work-at-home jobs. It's simply necessary to give more and more time for work using your computer and less time for leisure...until your business online is working efficiently that gives some some more time for leisure. Time management is very important when you plan to work at home.

I think it is the ideal job for women. They can look after the family well and perform house-hold works in addition to the necessary work for which they are paid. Moreover, it has no fixed arrival or departure time. You are free to do your job-work as and when you like it. You have no superior staff present physically to supervise your work. I think these are facilities which one may enjoy if one joins any work-at-home job. I think these are few of the reasons which make people turn to work-at-home jobs.

because if you succeed on it, its worth it, you can spend more time with your family and its less stressful because you dont have to deal with the traffic, annoying colleagues and nagging bosses. While for others its an easy way for extra money. Also its fun to see you are getting money from something you had earned from the comfort of your home.

You are right about some annoying colleagues, although sometimes you miss others whom you have good relationships with. I think it's not that bad to work outside or in the office so there are some good parts and bad parts of it. But in my opinion, working at home have a lot more good parts and a lot less bad parts in it :)

Hello BetterDays4Me... How are you? I wish you in a good condition of health...reminding lots of people get sick, such as DB fever and thypoid. Well...my reason to get work-at-home is...I am really desperate to get a job in an office. I have no other choice to work. I cannot do business, because I do not have the fund. I am grateful that someone gave me a laptop. So, all I can do is only work-at-home.

For me, there are many advantages of work-at-home jobs. 1. Anyone can work at home. I started working online as a student and I find this very convenient. 2. You can save a lot of costs. When I had my On-the-job training last year, I worry about the transportation costs, allowance, food expenses and other miscellaneous expenses. When I am at home, I only consider the electricity costs for my computer. 3. Salary is tax-free. In our country, the tax deductions is pretty big. 4. More convenient when working at home. I can work in my pajamas. I don't have to follow the time in reporting. I can rest immediately after my job.
• Philippines
19 Apr 12
I like the part when you said you can work in your pajamas...wow, what an image of being comfortable at work! I always work with my short pants on and with comfortable shirt, but your pajamas beats that :)
19 Apr 12
The only reason I would turn to this is because I would get more time in bed and also to save money on travel costs. I think also people can work from home with less pressure as deadlines may not be so tight because they could work all through the day, whenever suits them. Does not have to be the standard 9 to 5

Yes, i think those are some of the general benefits of working at home...more freedome and less pressure or stress. In the office, your work controls your time while at home, you control your own time and you can consume it however you like :)
