Your opinion of Africa

I am just curious to find out what our fellow MyLotters think of Africa as a country in terms of investment and also in terms of tourism. Is this a place you would want to visit or not really? I myself think Africa is the only region that has a chance for really high returns on investments but of course there is a lot of basic work that is needed to get there. I am busy writing a report on African business and potential returns etc so when it is done I will post it here for you guys.

I agree that Africa is a huge country. I live in Cape Town SA and in general SA is a great place to live! Politicians are my only problem with SA. With the exclusion of few, I think they are just greedy and corrupt people that is interested in lining their pockets and blame apartheid on everything! please bear in mind I am not 'white'. I am an ordinary South African that love my country!

That isnot what I meant! I only said that because people GENERALLY believe that only white people is not happy with the government.Almost Everyday there are news reports of officials or politicians that is corrupt or is charged with mismanagement if funds, etc!! But that is another topic on its own!lol Where your q is concerned, tourism is rife here because of our beautiful city!!

Umm.. There's rather a lot of Africa! It's difficult to answer any question on such a large scale. Are you one of those tourists who think you can visit Europe in one day?

Then you would know that Africa is a continent, NOT a country!

I am very keen on traveling. I have traveled to a few countries in Asia: Tunisia, Kenya, the Seychelles and South Africa. I know that tourism exists in some other African countries. In the Gambia tourism gives money to very poor people. Kenya and other places like it have safari experiences and palm fringed beaches. I would love to see the Victoria Falls. I am keen to go to Madagascar and Mauritius. I loved visiting Cape Town and the Garden Route. I think that investment is possible in Africa but the person or company must do some homework first. If I was in that situation I wouldn't invest in Nigeria due to the scams.

I am from Mauritius Island, a small island located next to the massive African continent. As part of my job, I have been travelling extensively across many African countries for nearly four years. I even managed to learn basic Swahili - a language spoken widely in Eastern Africa. I won't say much about Africa. I'll just say this line and I leave it to you to interpret it: "They call it Africa. I call it home"

For me ,Africa is really nice and good place to go.For it has really natural resources and the place is wild and you feel free to go there.Though there are many developing countries, that is its unique styles and charisma.

I have to admit that I don't know much about the continent of Africa and I don't have enough money to think about investmenting. Still, I think that Africa could provide oppurtunity for a person who was looking to build a business because there are many voids to be filled. I have never been a world traveller, the only time I have ever left the United States was going to Canada and I don't have any immediate thoughts about visiting Africa. Nothing against Africa, as there are many things to see and do, but there are other places high on my list if I ever have enough money to travel.
