Preferably start training young. Puppies (8 weeks) learn quickly. Train with love and reward. Lots of praise when they do something righ. NEVER SMACK THEM. They will remember and never be the same again. Depending on the breed, food is usually a great training aid. Training is repetition. Use the same commands as you guide the dog to do what you want. Use the dogs name with each command. House training. Dogs by nature would like to do their business outside. You will be abloe to see when they want to go by their mannerisms. Quickly let them out and say 'Ruby. Do wees' Lots of praise while they are performing. Pick up poos in the street with a plastic bag - be responsible. Come and sit. Hold out a little bit of food at dog's nose height near your knees and say 'Ruby. Come' As the dog gets close to you, lift up the food above their head and say 'Ruby. Sit' and with your other hand gently press their bottom down. Much praise. Do not let them jump up! Once you have the basics then go to puppy/dog training classes where they will train the owners as much as the dogs! It is great fun and a good social occasion for all. Check Youtube online for some great training videos.

REWARD! This is the key for dog training. Some dogs are happy to "work" for a ball or their favorite toy, others need something more... encouraging. But every dog can be trained using food reward. Use small pieces of food (something she likes - you can cut a hot dog into slices and use them as a reward) and give them to your dog whenever she does something that you like. For instance, in housebreaking your dog, reward her whenever she pees outside. Take a bit of the food reward in your hand and keep your palm closed. Let her sniff your hand. Make her follow your hand to do what you want her to do (sit, down, heel etc) Let her have the reward only when she does what you asked her. Good luck!

What Smacksman has written is good sense. I would just add that to hit a dog may actually be interpreted by the dog as reward; to a dog, attention, even bad attention may be reward Reward is indeed the best way of training a dog, disciplining a dog is necessary and ignoring the dog or excluding it from your presence are effective all the best urban

It took me some time to train my dog and I am happy with the results of my hardwork I mean my dog is now controllable and behave unlike before when she is so naughty and playful. Now I can say she is disciplined thanks for my hardwork.
