I always sleeps lying in my back with my one hand up to my head, I'm more comfortable in that position. But after a long hours of sleep I woke up and I felt that my back is aching. I tried to turn on my left side and cuddle my pillow but when I woke up I ended up lying in my back again. What shall I do?

it is already your habit in sleeping and you cant change that the only thing you can do to avoid back pains is to do stretching before and after sleeping just to relax your bones and muscles....

maybe yo should refrain from lying on that position. you can put some pillow so you don't get any back pain when you wake up in the morning. my boyfriend is also like that, he likes it better when he is lying on a firm bed or mattress.

I guess with what other says, it is necessary to change your position and habit. Probably it is important to change position because staying for too long on that position can cause back strain. It is important to identify what kind of sleeper are you and what appropriate back support or pillow is advisable to use.

Obviously lying on your back has been your habit and since it causes you backache, you need to change it.I lie on my back for some time and then change sides. You don't change sides which means that your back has to bear all your weight for the whole night.Naturally you would have pain in your back.Change your habit.Keep lying on your left side for ten minutes and then change it and lie on your right side. And do all this when you are awake, not asleep.Gradually you would succeed in changing your habit.

I don't lie when I'm awake normally I lied when I'm about to sleep and sometimes I start my sleep at my side and waking up lying on my back . Maybe like the others says' I will put pillows on my side so I will not roll.

Pillows would prevent you from changing sides, not from lying on your back.Try to lie on your sides. It may help you.

You have to change your sleeping position. The best position is angled facing to right with hand lying beside the head. With this position, stomach will relax during sleep. Try it, and sleep quality will be better.

not sure if you can do anything, it depends on how long you have been lying this way. i mean have ypou done it all your life,? if so it will be very hard to break doing.. i know i toss and turn and lay several different positons before i fall asleep but i love my hand under my head under the pillow.. and on my stomach. or side .. and if i cant get like that i cant be comfortable and if im not comfortable and can toss and turn i cannot sleep.. if your back still bothers you realy bad. you can have an x-ray and maybe go to thearpy i know once my spine was growing crooked and the guy at the dr's office massage thearypist, put me in a prretzel twist of the body and he actual straightened my back and spine and as i felt it break loose and turn it hurt but afterwards i felt the relief.. and was glad i went.. and im still better from that no more back pain.:)

My back also aches when sleeping. Most of the time I sleep without any pillows on my head, side lying is also the best position for me to fall asleep fast but with pillow on front of me. I might be trying what 3honor has suggested above, putting a pillow on the back while side lying. If I have issues falling asleep, maybe I will have to go with the no pillow. It's really hard without pillows, I really feel comfortable with pillows but my back really hurts with them as well. *sigh!

I am also not comfortable in the position that you mentioned. But luckily I am not addicted to sleep in this position. Try sleeping in the opposite direction. I mean, your face on the pillow. Sleep on my stomach. But then, people say it is not all that healthy to sleep that way. I do not know much about it. The position that you are currently sleeping is the best position to sleep is what people say. In your position, try to use a pillow which is think enough to keep your head slanted. This might help.

I used to sleep in that position to and found myself experiencing back ache in the morning. So I decided to change my sleeping position no matter how comfortable am I in it because it is giving me a hard time in the morning anyway. After several weeks of trying out different sleeping position, I am no longer experiencing back ache. Also, I suggest that if the back ache still persist even after changing position, you may want to visit your physician for a check up. Prevention is always better than cure. We never know if there is something that you need to look to aside from your sleeping position.
