Do You Drive Your Own Car?

Australia

When I was in Manila, I used to take the public transport, take a cab, or have my own driver at work. I thought I did not have to learn to drive on my own. When I got married and came here in Sydney my life changed. I had to learn how to drive on my own, be independent, and learn how to go to different places relying merely on my driving skills. Now, if I lose my car I will definitely feel like I lost my independence. It is funny and embarrassing at the same time, but I haven't been to any public transport here in Sydney except cabs. Also, my car is like an extension of my room or house. It is a sort of comfort zone for me as well. How about you? Do you depend too much on your own driving?

I would be lost without my car. I drive about 10,000 miles a year to get around, and public transportation wouldn't work very well for me. Most of the places I go don't have direct routes with public transportation, so it would take me a long time to get anywhere. I love the freedome of getting in the car and going wherever I want, whenever I want.

Hi webhaus. I understand exactly how you feel. Losing your car is like losing your independence. I have the same sentiment here, like going to one place would take me few bus transfers and quite a longer time (according to my family and friends who have been to public transport, because I haven't personally tried it...shame on me....) than when I have a car of my own. Thanks for your response.

I can't drive as of now, and I'm not really having the time and money to start a course on it. Fortunately, I live i the capital of my country, and the public trqansport is quite okay, so anywhere I want to go, I can travel by public transport (bus, tram, train, underground).

Hi doroffee. It's good that public transport works well for you. I like the idea too of not driving and be just a passenger. I will take time soon to use public transport when I am not with kids and see how I like it. Thanks for your response.

Hi alicia812, I live in place where I can get public transport easily. So after I had saved enough for the down payment for buying a used car by paying in monthly installment. This happened after I had had my first job for half a year after the graduation facing the transport problem. Other than going to work in weekdays conveniently I could have comfortable ride during weekends as well as holiday to whatever places I wish freely I can dump all the stuffs like slippers, umbrella, glasses, hats, scarfs, as well as other essential stuffs which I need at anytime. Really convenient I would be handicapped if without my beloved car. I can realize this deeply when it's sent for service or repairing. Happy posting

Since I learned to drive and got a car I have been very used to getting myself and family around in our own car. It's been close to 20yrs since I've taken public transportation.

Yes, I drive my own car too, and since I learned how to drive, I never like taking jeepneys anymore.

I hope you don't lose your car. That would be an awful feeling, but I am sure you would adjust. Yes I do drive myself and I hate it. I only drive when I have to. I would love to have my own driver:D

Yes, I always use my own car, for in the city or out of town. I even prefer the journey than the destination. I chose to drive instead of flying, although the cost is more expensive. My car is available in clothing, toiletries, snacks, fresh drinks and medicine.

i drive my own car and just like you I thought I would go nuts without it, and I did, but for a while. That was the time when my car was submerged in typhoon floods that I would have to wait for several months to have it fixed. Those days I have to endure taking cabs or jeepneys. It was a blessing in disguise simply because I have to learn the discomfort of it and end up adjusting to it so that when it necessitates to get a PUJ I can now manage conveniently.
