See i have been hearing this dispute over and over again and it never ends. Of course Philippines won't ever let go of Spratly because i personally believe these islands belong to Philippines ( it is nearer to Philippines! ) i really do not know who set the rules or sets the boundaries of what belongs to whom... but hey it is nearer to our country. But China would not also give up and won't back down, so i am questioning, why are they fighting so much over this little island? there are even areas in it that aren't arable! But i believe there is SOMETHING in that is worth fighting for that is why China won't give u? maybe fuel? maybe there is some hidden gem in it, fuel, gem or what ever right? This is crazy, getting crazier as i even heard China is even prepared to FIGHT for it attacks Philippines? cmon! its like David and Goliath!

Spratly..i thought this was the SHoal or something.. Are they the same place? I am quite clueless about this, but i think China wants this because countries always want bigger territory and might find more fishes there.

Spratly is different from shoal. Shoal has been claimed by two countries, China and Philippines. Spratly has been also claimed by both countries. Aside from the two there are also other countries claiming on the said area.

Oh, so they really are different.. Shoal is the current place/territory that China and the Philippines are fighting about though..some people said Gloria Arroyo already sold Spratly to CHina, but i'm not sure.

Spratly was really rich in natural reserves like fuel. Not only china is getting interests on the said area, there are other countries claiming on the area.

The main reasons are 1. Vast natural resources such as natural gas reserves and marine resources The main reason why there are a lot of Chinese fishermen going hundred of smiles to spratlys is because that place is home to a lot of fishes, turtles etc. 2. Territory expansion With China becoming a world superpower, it needs more territories. 3. Strategic location most of the worlds sea vessels passes through the west Philippine sea, if you control the passage. You control the economy. Very fitting description about david and goliath. China, being a communist country don't believe in God and also called the sleeping giant. on the other hand, the Philippines is a small country which also happen to be the only predominantly christian country in asia. Coincidence?

I also don't have any clue what is in Spratly's island. Hopefully a very good one in literature or has studied the Philippines well will have an answer to this as I am also curious. This island is making two countries fight and might become even bigger when it is not resolved soon. Let's just hope that peace will prevail and that they will be able to talk this out in a diplomatic way so that no bigger fight will happen between this two countries.

I sure hope they will settle this in a diplomatic way.. it is scary to think that things will go worse just because of an island.

I have been hearing of the Asian country's dispute for Spratly Island ever since I was in the first grade, which was more than a decade ago. Or perhaps, I was required to know about it due to school matters. They may have been having this some kind of a tug-of-war for Spratly even way before. Anyway, despite that, I still haven't become so much sure why are they debating for the territorial rights of this island. Maybe it has something to do with POWER, in general. But it's just a speculation. Whatever it is, I hope that the predicament regarding this issue will come to a final resolution.

And there are also other countries who are willing to help the Philippines (and China as well) claim the island. All because of the resources that are available in that island. Maybe we should try visiting the island and see for ourselves. Heheha! Just kidding. XD We can't fight China because we all know there are outnumbered plus they have more advanced technology than us. I hope the China will agree on bringing the issue to the United Nations to resolve the issue faster. =)

its been a years that island fought not only by china but by other asia pacific countries on asia, and geographically if you based it on measurement , our country philippines is truly the nearest among the others , so let us not give up and protect our land against imperionalism.

It all boils down to oil. There are trillions of cubic feet of natural gas there. It could even make us a First World Country if we drill that. That is why China is very eager to get the whole of South China Sea.
