Obstacles to learning English pronunciation

I'm learning English pronunciation. I didn't learn this skill well at the beginning carefully. It's difficult because my brain had bad habit. When I see an English word, my brain will be automatic reading it with wrong pronunciation, of course. This habit is difficult to throw away. This habit is repeated everyday. So, I can't read or saying with right pronunciation in English. Do you have this experience when you're learning English? Advice for me?

English is very important language nowadays because world is getting smaller and smaller and we can see the effect of it, we do not know the meaning of few words in our native language but we know its meaning and word in English. If you want to learn Englis then you can learn it by few organs like brain, eye, hand, mouth and ear. Brain - brain is most important part of our body because it decods everything which we get from eye, ear, mouth etc that is why we should think about English whenever possible, just try to translate your sentences in mind. Reading English is good way to get familiar with English. Eye - use eye to learn English, we can watch English movies and serials with subtitles. We can read interesting articles. Mouth - if we want to talk fluently we should always try to speak it because it will polish our accent and we wont get fumble which we normally get because of often use. Hand - we can write/type English which would help in forming sentences and it is good exam point of view. Ear - try to listen English as much as possible because it will make you familiar with English and whenever you talk, hear, study you will not feel that you are doing something unusual and hard and believe me it is most easy way of learning because we do not need to be do anything than hearning. I hope it is helpful, feel free to ask. Thank you

you are welcome. yes, our involvement in things makes us better and better that is why we should practice English whenever we get chance. practice is important and we should practice and study whatever we want to learn. Brain is important part of our body and that is why we should take care of it we can do some exercises and meditation to make it stronger. all body parts work on our brain, that is why if you learn through more than one organ it would be easy. I guess, you learn in old style like reading only that is why your brain get tired, try writing, reading interesting things and light matters which you can get on Mylot and comics which is light, fun to read, entertaining, and NOT TIRING. as you said, you want to improve your pronunciation, I would suggest you to download Hollywood songs and sing with them to improve your pronunciation. and trust me by this way you can impress girls/boys as well lolzz..

So you speak French. I know it's difficult because I also have friends from France and they also found it difficult to speak English. I advise you to often read English books, browse sites which are in English, watch movie in English and practice having a conversation to someone who speak English too. Do not be afraid just try and do your best.

I'm also learning and trying to improve my english. I have no difficulty in reading english word while it's still in my brain. The problem is when I actually have to say it. I know what the right pronunciations are, but my lips refused to say it in the right way . I always have trouble in speaking English much more than reading or listening. Keep on learning, I'm sure you'll beat your obstacles.

I can relate with you my friend. See, I'm from a country where English is being spoken as a second language-in schools and in businesses. English as a language is so vital in every transaction in our lives. With regard to this, I'm working that hard to have my accent and pronounciation neutralized and have it sound ideally at par with the natives or somewhat close to it. I practice almost everyday. I check on the online dictionary the correct pronounciation of every unknown word to me. I'm also planning to enroll on a English enrichment course, on a classroom setting where I can learn the English as a language with lessons on pronounciation, vocabulary and grammar. In here, I can find the real interaction and exchange of ideas. Also, sharing my ideas here in Mylot is also a good way of expressing my thoughts in English.I believe that through these, I will be able to practice more and be better as time goes by. Hope you can learn English particularly pronounciation in no time. You can do it!

I attended many English courses. But my English skills are not improved much. So, I think that the way of learning is more important than how much you learn.

I think that vocabulary and grammar skills can be passed easily more than pronunciation. You can learn the book "Grammar English In Use", reading English books, magazines, newspaper etc...Wish you're successful!

Hi, As per my opinion you try to speak more & more with your English knowing best friend. They will make correction if any pronounce is not correct. But remember that don't speak among the your criticizer or only friend, because they will only make joke. Also, if you feel, you can learn some online pronounce sites.

Hi! I live in a country where English is the second language. But eventhough i still have difficulty in pronunciation too. I also have problems with grammar and sometimes sentence construction. Besides i don't have lots of English vocabulary that i am not comfortable talking to English speaking persons. I really envy those people who speaks English as if it is their mother tongue. So i plan to take up English lessons but i don't have time even on weekends. I bought a book so i could self study English but i seldom read it too. Maybe i will try buying a CD that teach English pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. Why don't you try that too. Reading English books too can help. Good luck.

Earlier, I did have the same problem as you. However, I do understand that my problem was due to not having a right start when I learned the English. In my personal view, we must start when we are still young, then it will be very easy for us to learn the pronunciation of English. To overcome this pronunciation problem, I bought many English cartoon and English learning VCD for three of my children to watch and to learn at the same time. Now, three of my children have no problem to pronounce the English words.

I too have problem with my English pronunciation that is because I rarely practice to speak in English, I do not have friends to practice with and Im too shy to greet foreigner who visit my city. I live in a tourism city and so many tourists comes to my city, people said the best way to improve our English is by practice it. Well Im practicing my English written skill here on mylot but I still have not practice the speaking skill. I would like to join English club in my city so I can have conversation in English with the other English learners, the English club that I want to join has dormitory concept where we stay in dormitory and all conversation must be in English. I dont have the money yet to join the English club, so I try to practice it by singing English song even my voice is such a disaster hahaha. But this way can help me to learn how to pronoun English words. Perhaps you can make friend with English native speakers and have conversation through video call on skype or yahoo. I cant give recommendation what groups or where to find people who are willing to learn English speaking skill by internet, because im sailing on same boat.

I was in an elnglish medium school and we were encouraged to talk in english all the time- but we didnt :) we saw english movies and shows and our teachers talked in english so it was easy. But i can ubderstand how you feel because even though I know French very well i cant speak it!! it is really difficult to speak imo. I've visited France and even there I couldnt speak a word. It was embarrasing. But learning english should be easier- just surround yourself with people who speak it well.

the problem that i had is in the accent, i learned the american english, so i speak with the american accent, now i was dying hearing british people speak english with their great and unique accent, but because i usually used american and 'normal' accent that i usually used, it is so hard for me to learn the british accent, because every time i talk, i will use the normal way i talk so the british accent don't come out and i still sound like the american rather than the british, so i really know how you feel, i do, because it so hard for me too to change the way i usually have in speaking, i'm still learning the accent until now the advice i can give to you is keep learning, be patient, people takes different time to learn something so don't give up! keep practicing, sure we can! :D
