Hey guys, I've been wondering why most pay phones or phone booths in other countries are like this. I mean, how will you know if the call is for you when it is a public pay phone and you are just walking throught the street or where the phone is. And how about the person from the other line, how do they know which payphone are you standing at and how will they know what number to dial... I am really confused in here. cause in our country, Philippines, we have payphones but then we can't receive a call from there. only outbounds, no inbound calls... I'm really confused, I can't even sleep just thinking about it! Oh, and about the movie, phone booth, why would you just answer a phone when you don't know if it was for you? It says, it's the only phone booth available in New York in that movie, so most probably, people also want to use it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phone_Booth_(film)

Most public phones only allows outbound calls, never inbound calls, unless we go back in time when cellphones are not in used yet. In my younger days, i've seen people waiting around public phones for people to call back, especially in coffee house. However things are different now, numbers called from public phone are all blocked, meaning receiver won't be able to see the number and where it's coming from. As such, there's no way to do call back.

Oh, is that so? well, I can see phonebooths do have generations and has changed for its own as well as cellphones huh? So, if it's emergency, you won't be able to know where is the caller from and if he/she is calling for help, you won't know where it is...is that so?

Maybe in a developed countries they do have the nukmbering system set. And if the people know the number of the payphone/ public phone they can use it both to call and to answer. Of course the caller would tell the receiver first to expect the call at certain payphone/public phone.

yes, i do know now that people will learn to know that the call was for them when the other person talked or communicated to them that it was them that will call in that certain number and place. but then sometimes it seems weird to me specially when the phonebooths have too many phones in line...wondering what's the exact location of the certain person they will call...

See, you are not sure yourself huh? I just remembered one movie which the caller knows what number to dial whether the cellphone is not in the hands of the owner...it's called eagle ye. have you seen that? quite confusing and irritating cause the main actor is being trapped by the one who calls him for doing things he don't like to do...

And there are cameras on the street and maybe on every payphone for a person to know exactly when to phone someone on a public phone... well, I don't know. Maybe it happens in movies only...

Of course i would know the call is for me because it has my ringtone.. lol Obviously it's simply if there's nobody standing there except yourself and you would know it. If it's like the movie, it's out of couriousity that u went to answer the call.. lol When such call comes in out of a sudden, beware, u are being watched or tracked.. haha If not, nobody is gonna know where u are and how would u be there unless it's GOD.. haha

Then it depends on your luck.. haha :D Just so happen they picked up and it's for them.. lol Be proactive and daring, if all are waiting around yet nobody wants to answer that call, no one will ever know who the call is for.. haha

Wack! Are you joking? If it's your cellphone, well then you'll know that it was your ringtone in it... Well there are movies like they are in a crowded place where there are phonebooths available. How will you know that call was for you when there are other people waiting for their call as well?

Actually, I just made this topic for thrill..and fun as well... How aboput you sweety, have you had public phone calls before? Who is it that you have talked to?

Sometimes one can know the number on a pay phone or phone booth and if they want to reach you, they could give you a time and tell you to be around so they call the phone booth, and as for the movie, I really don't know why collin farrel answered thr call, the strange caller even questioned him why he did, very interesting movie though

Okay, so you're saying that two people have agreed to call in that certain phonebooth by a certain time of the day. How about the number on that phone booth? How will you know that? I guess from the movie, he thought that the call was for him and since he did make the last call, isn't it? But really confusing as well, how did such stranger know about the certain person and his loved ones?

Oh well, I guess those who uses more of it knows that they two people have to have communication first before being able to know if the call was for them or not. ANd about the movie, Stu always uses the phone so the killer or caller really knows he is always there to call. Okay, nice one. But I hope you didn't copy and paste the whole thing from the site I provided..heheh Have you watched the movie yet? I have watched few scenes of it but I easily got bored cause there was only one location and seems kinda boring and fear at the same time..and most of the time was shouting out loud and making bad words, so I didn't watch the entire movie! Though I know it was good suspense or thrilling or so. I just felt like I don't like it much...

OMG you really need to go back and watch the entire movie, its so interesting , thrilling, suspense filled and enjoyable. You know the director of the movie was playing a mind game with the people he made the movie for, that's us, in that we would never know who the shooter is till the end. Just try to get it and watch, I promise you, you won't regret it.

yeah, but there are still existing pay phones isn't it? in case of emergencies, you lost your phone and you found a pay phone, why not use it? I am just wondering here as well as about the movie stated. thanks for your response...
