hi Friends and lotters Two years ago - 30,000 INR (about 600 USD) was a dream to me. I needed that amount to buy my wife a Laptop. She had asked me for one long back before I fell ill and was confined at home (in 2008). I was earning well then and I could have gifted her a Lappy if I could work there for 3 more months. But my illness and regular medication deprived us of this. Since I started working from home, I earned some amounts and these were never a regular income. I did not give up hope and continues saving small amounts after meeting my medical expenses, and even sundry expenses. Today, I checked out my balance with the bankers and the good news is that I now have that amount to buy my wife her laptop... I admit, it will not be a top class one but still, within my constraints, I think I have achieved something big Have you ever tried to chase some dream of another person and really felt happy on that achievement? What is your Story! Cheers, theSids. ps: Awaiting the return of my wife who is expected to arrive next weekend

Hi godson Hooray! A new laptop for wifey! I can see how big her smile is gonna be once you handed over her your gift. You are so sweet godson. To save up such money for something even when you have to spend for medical expenses and others is really a great achievement. Something you definitely must be proud of. 30K as a budget can buy a really great laptop. Who says it's not gonna be a top class one?

hi godmom I have not yet told her anything about the amount or even the fact that I had been saving some amount... But right now I am feeling too impatient - and I know I should hold on and wait for her return - I want to go to the purchase with her... been a really long time since we went shopping

Hi Victor First, I must apologise here - something went wrong with my friends list and I saw that you dont appear there anymore. I should have searched but I didnt. Now that I see you here, I am resending you a FR. Yes dear, this saving for a cause does mean a lot to me. I always wanted to gift my wife something that she needed. I do keep gifting her chocolates and smaller things (which mostly are eatables or dresses) but nothing which she needs for good. I am delighted at the thoughts when she will have her laptop. It has been a long awaited thing for us and I am happy that I have a platform to share my happiness with you all dear friends

Hi jazel Thanks for the bonus I am just thinking - which one would she opt - I have two in mind - one from HP and another from Acer. Both are near the same price but Acer has some better keyboard with a better HD graphics card... I think I should leave the decision to her as it would be her who would use that lappy... I am still happy with my desktop... I have no where to go you see

I am happy for you now, you have enough money to buy a laptop ...your wife will be very happy with your gift. Ya, you are right, we should not give up what we are doing and keep saving even though with a small amount..and for sure finally we can get significant amount later. I do save now also since earning money is not easy right now. I always find out the way to get discount or save money buy going to an early market to buy food from farmers directly, and get extra money online also... I hope i have enough money to buy a laptop in the end of this year also...

Hi ryangong I have been a born spendthrift all my life but this is one time that I really wanted to gift her something special. Maybe this entire episode would have me changed for good. I do sincerely wish you a good luck so that you save enough to buy a laptop and yes, I will try to look out for deals where I can save some money (I have never been this way ever in my life but now that I see some benefits of this saving thing I am sure to have a go at least before saying No)

Hi Sids, I am happy for both of you and congrats for 'not giving up'. Don't break the suspense and let it be a surprise for her. WE have some beautiful stories, one is the gold chain my hubby gifted me and i gifted a two wheeler bike for him. Last year i also gave him a surprise by buying a pc for home which he wanted.

Hi viju I failed last year when there was a surprise tour to Shirdi and I had to put in some of that amount. And again, this month, my aunt was diagnosed to have brain tumor and I did spend an amount So I was feeling that I might never be able to have that amount this year. luckily things have fallen at the right place. now I am impatient to buy the laptop as I know the spendthrift me but then, I might fail to see the happiness on my wife's face or even reveal out thee secret before she arrives I somewhere have always felt that you are a genuinely caring lady and I am glad to read that you have surprised your hubby and family with the two wheeler and the PC

Sids, Have you decided the brand? I know you are an expert to decide upon but you can get the one which has a service centre near by? I am very simple and do support my husband in all the ways i can. Now I am planning to get a scooty, which would be more convenient and i don't have to depend on the public transport (like today is Bandh, i have to pay extra to auto etc). But again, remember about the extension work at home... so that is on top priority list. Take care

Hope I will get it one day. I have a long list to gift for many people. All those are secret and never let it to know to anyone. *wink.

Hi viji Oh that list of gifts sounds kool Now that you mention it, I wanted to share some good things with you when we met. I am eagerly awaiting my wife to return - as after her return we will plan where to go... I mean I have to visit my doctor for my health checkups at Hyderabad and also I might visit Nishant at Jaipur - if that Jaipur trip happens, I am surely going to stay at delhi for a few days - sreekala and you are on the top list to meet in case I happen to go to Delhi I am sure, you will get your laptop this year doc. Though off discussion - I would personally want that you re-start your medical career - might not be as a money making thing but as a hobby at least... that way you would do some social good too

Viji - I never know about your medical career - what did you do? MBBS / MD? learning Hindi won't be that hard as learning Tamil or malayalam. it easy.. see some star tv/ sony tv soaps

That's great thesids! I don't think there is a greater sense of achievement than the one we get for loved ones. I have never felt as good about the things that I have accomplished for myself as I have for the ones that are close to me. It is just a different feeling I guess. Take care.

It's nice to read your article and really appreciate your self-determination. Though you fell sick and was deprived of many things, still you fulfilled your dream. I know how happy you are now as I also underwent a similar situation few years back. Anyways, keep up the spirit and this message has motivated me to work more and do something for my family also. All the best for your life.

Hi, Thesids, I see this discussion now for the first time thanks to the "recent" tab. This is a wonderful and moving story and the participation shows this. But one thing is missing - the most important element. What happened at the end? What kind of laptop you got, what was the reaction of your wife? Don't you think that you owe us another discussion on this topic?

Congratulations on living out your dream, thesids! It is exciting to see how you hoped and planned to get a Lappy for your wifey, and then were able to accomplish this! I can sense your excitement over the very tubes of the internet. I had a dream once, of marrying the most beautiful and wonderful and super sexy person in the wide wide world. For years, I thought it was only a dream. I waited over 22 years, and then, miracle of all miracles! Much like Jenny in the movie, Forrest Gump, my dream came true. I am now married to the one I dared only dream about before!!
