Wormwood

As a Christian I have lots of questions about the bible, God, religion, and life in general, and usually I can find the answers to my questions. But one thing I've never been able to find the answer to is where the star wormwood is. "And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon a third of the rivers, and upon the springs of water; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and a third of the waters became Bitter; and many people had died of the waters, because they were made bitter." (Revelation 8:10, 11 - KJV). Does anyone have any information about this star? I can't find anything.

with all due respect redhotpogo, while i can commend your intellectual curiosity, as a christian, is this fact the most important thing for us to know about? does it have anything to do with the great commission, or the fact that we are to love the lord god with all our hears and our neighbor as ourselves? it is not that i think it is not important to learn about these obscure prophetic references that have as many theoretical explanations as there are theologians and laypeople who develop those explanations. it is just that i am continually disgusted by the fact that throughout history, people have used their christianity to complicate, divert, and hurt others and the message. the message is love, to God, to others, and yes, even to self. if one has faith, practices jesus kind of christianity, etc, one is too busy to worry about such things as where this wormwood star is, and do we even know that it is a star? or how many apocalyptic horses there are and other such nonsense....if we are in a right and loving relationship with God and others, we need not fear such, perfect love casts out all fear... in another vein, have you read c.s. lewis' book, the screwtape letters? i believe the satan character in that book is called wormwood....and it is interesting that there was a british prison called wormwood scrubs....happy apocalyptic studies to you redhotpogo....

Excellent answer! I also thought of C.S. Lewis when I read this. The bloke above you also seems rather bright.

Everything in the bible is important. If it wasn't then why is it there? Half the story is a lie. You need to understand everything. I'm not trying to move away from the story. I'm just trying to figure out the meaning of everything so that I understand it better. I have not read that c.s. lewis book but I'm a fan. read all the witch and the wardrobe books. I will have to check it out.
