Have you tried data entry jobs?

I have heard a lot about data entry jobs as a good way of earning money online. I registered in oDesk before but never tried it because I was getting confused on how to start in the site. There are a lot of data entry jobs besides oDesk and I don't have any idea which ones are the best. Do you have any idea which data entry sites are some of the good ones and can make you good extra money? About the task, do you know which tasks are easy to the general public? I know I can do some writing jobs but I don't know about the other categories in oDesk. Can you share your knowledge and experiences with data entry jobs?

Hi! I have an account in oDesk but it's too hard to find a job in their because you have to bid. Employers hired those who bid the lowest and you know the amount you'll get is not enough for your effort in doing the task. One time, i got scammed by my employer. Don't bid on jobs who offer fixed rate coz the employer won't pay u in full. Therefore, Odesk doesn't work for me. If ever you'll find a reliable and a good payer employer, keep it in a long run. :-)

I am not comfortable either in odesk for secuirty reasons. One time I saw a scam site and there were too many applications submitted. Too bad many people do not even know how to distinguish legit or scam site. That must be filtered by odesk if they want to get more workers there. But there are lots of work available there which are legit also, we only need to be selective. That is if we are willing to compete with hundreds of applicants in one position and take the lowest bid, which I think is not really worthy of my time.

I remember now that you needed to bid in oDesk to apply for any jobs there. I'm sorry to hear about your experience in oDesk, yzakia. I guess finding a good employer is another factor, and maybe luck will play in your side if you put enough effort and time in it. I didn't know there are scam sites in oDesk because I heard it is such a legitimate site. If that is the case, I would agree that oDesk should be more serious in preventing those sites from participating in oDesk. If there is big competition in oDesk, I guess it would work only for people who are going to give a lot of time applying there. I am not sure now if I'm willing to give oDesk a try, but thanks for the honest feedback which might save me a lot of time and effort.

I have tried odesk too with no success and the majority of the people I talk to say the same thing. I haven't found any great data entry sites that make good money at this point

Wow, I never expect that the majority of contributors to this post would have such a negative experience with oDesk and data entry work in general. I'm almost ready to give up the idea 100% now.

Hey, many of us well knows that the making money online with the data entry job is just entering into the cave of the scams. I think it is not a better way. If there are some legit sites then these have option to bid and not only bid, but also a very tough bid. So, I think it is better to be away from this type of online money making job/sites.

Okay thanks! I will keep that in mind so that I won't have to do those kinds of things. Well maybe those data entry sites that are more simple are worth trying, what do you think? I heard about Microworkers or Minuteworkers are probably easier to do, is that correct?

I also have some bad experience with online surveys, and living in Asia makes it harder to get a good survey opportunities. I joined surveyspaid.com and paid $40 and didn't reach payout in any of those very few surveys I was making, so I stopped. Anyway, if you know one good survey site that pays well I hope you can share it :)

I too have limited skills that I can do in oDesk like writing jobs and maybe editing stuff. If ever I do tasks in oDesk, I would really be very picky in applying for which tasks I am capable of.
