An alternate media player to Windows and VLC players??? urgent help required...

Does anyone know a media player other than the above two?? As you must be knowing, all video files such as .flv, .mkv don't play on windows media! The best alternative would be VLC player. However, on my laptop, evertime I install VLC player, all my shortcut icons and files are turned into .lnk files, and my computer performance is affected. Someone suggested that I use Real Player, however, whenever I open a video in Real Player, it says that some additional software has to be installed. However, these software are unavailable! Please can someone suggest a solution for my VLC and Real player problems, or else suggest a new player as good as VLC! Please urgent help required!

I would suggest you install codecs rather than media players. Try searching for CCCP.It's the one I use and it works great for me so far. I have tried it play videos in flv, mkv, avi, etc. I hope this helps.
