space colonies

With China's plan to colonize the moon(I dont think US is interested anymore due to NASA's funding problems) for mining it for the Helium 3 (an energy source that can make the oil industry obsolete) Then the Netherlands is planning to colonize Mars so they can make a reality show, I know that sounds like a lame excuse to colonize a planet but yeah that is their reason.(anyway I am planning to audition) This makes me think, are space colonies going to have government of their own, are they going to be extensions of countries for the future. Can space colonies have their own economies or will they be dependent to earth.

I guess, humans are going universal. Another "science fiction becoming reality" story. But if the time comes for countries to colonize the moon and other planets I think it would follow the same concept like how they did it in the past. An explorer gets the blessing of the king or queen and the explorer starts to conquer lands under the name of the king or the queen. When people are settled they would demand independence and there follows a civil war after which a new country is born.

I wonder if the colonist in mars will have money and develop their own currency once they get to populate. for sure they will start with 4 people but they will slowly add people 4 every 2 years. for sure there will be a time where they can send a hundreds or thousands of people. the early settlers though will be stuck in communism.... since they wont have money there and money is useless when there is like only 4 of them.

I think the idea of helium 3 is great! We would no longer use fossil fuel that could damage our environment, but I bet it would cost billions to harvest that kind of fuel at the moon.

the helium 3 is found in the moon dust. The planet Mercury is also rich in Helium 3 but astronauts wont be able to survive there.
