It was so much fun. I went to one of the grocery stores and finally found Borax and the A & H Washing Soda, then I grated finely 2 bars of hypoallergenic soap into the mix. Stirred it up well, and then I only use 2 tablespoons per wash. I will probably use it later or tomorrow when I do my laundry then. Have you ever tried to make your own detergent? Did it come out Okay? I have to say, it's probably cheaper than buying the already made stuff and healthier on your body without chemicals.

i use powdered detergent. i like to put a box of bake and soda in the detergent box. this is safe for all clothes. i also use borax along with detergent to add that extra cleaning power.

This is powdered as well, but homemade style. I think the clothes are safe with the store bought detergent but it's the fact that the detergent can be unsafe for the skin and out bodies, that is one reason why I made it myself.

wow what a great idea. i wonder if the kids would go for it? but then id have to make it all the time for every one. plus fill up all the hand soap bottles and replentish the tp, etc. thats all the things i already do or i should say some. so id probably have to make it for everyone so not going to bother. im glad for you tho. way to go girl!

If you get the kids to help make it I'm sure they would go for it. Be careful when shredding the soap that you don't scrap your knuckles. I have heard of a way to use Ivory soap without having to grate it but I'm afraid to suggest it in case something goes wrong.

Making own laundry detergent is a good idea. I think it is much cheaper than commercial detergent. I always want to learn new things like this and hoping I can make it to since my sister is planning to start a laundry business in our province this coming August.

Good luck to your sister. What kind of laundry detergent is she planning to use? She could name it organic laundry.

This is probably something that my family should do. We are trying everyway possible to save money. Thanks for the good idea. I will have to try this when I get paid again. How well does it clean? Better than ALL?

I used it yesterday evening and it worked fine, I used a hypoallergenic soap. I took the 2 tablespoons and dissolved them in hot water first, then added them to the water in the washing machine, then added the clothes. No problems.

Just posted about the one we make and your photo to this article is running on my page! It is so much cheaper to make our own and avoiding the chemicals is great too!
