every time i go out i passed this road where the row of trees shelter me from the mid day sun. and last week i saw all of them cut on the middle trunk. it looks like the place became like a deserted and barren place without those trees. it did not only beautify the place but it cools the surrounding. i don't know what is the reason it was cut down. hopefully that there would be some laws making it illegal to cut tress or even plants without permission from the government.

Cutting down the trees as turned out as a normal activity but I wonder why they do them in a large extend. We people are much aware about the consequences of cutting tress but still they are cutting and exploiting the nature.

It seems to me like the morality of society is being slowly degraded with a lot of people not caring any more and no one takes the responsibility of what happens when we go against what we know is wrong.

I could not agree with you more. I live in Canada, right beside the Rocky Mountains, a few years back, the Government made it illegal to clear cut trees. But it was not soon enough. When you travel through the Rockies, you will still see the damage done by the logging companies and will take about 50 more years to be repaired (trees grow back). It is disgusting and just completely destroying nature. It is such a catch 22. If we as a society didn't need wood products, there would be no need for it. But, unfortunately, we still are using paper products at a record high and we as a society need to change that. The population growth in the world is not helping much either as we do require more business and homes to continue. Such a great discussion....

Yep you're absolutely right. Its like one big circle and a lot of things in our society seem this way. Like you said if its made by government that individuals can't well the loggers will do more clear cutting for us any way. Its necessity for paper then we should find more ways of promoting recycling.

i agree with you, we need to understand that trees are our life-lines, today we are living in concrete jungles. our environment has changed due to reckless cutting down of the trees. its so soothing to see the greenery around us. trees not only provide us shade but plays an important role in water cycle too. Mostly here in India trees are cut down for urbanization. we must realise the importance of trees before its too late.

Cutting tress without seeking the permission from the government is a crime. Th government has the right to arrest those ones who does such illegal cultural activities. I had also seen that most of the tress near the road parking are cut down. They provided me a good shelter during the sunny days but now it is not there. I feel very sad about that huge tree which gave me some shelter as well as some coolness.

We have a law against illegal cutting of trees. Perhaps we could focus more on the implementation of such laws. In fact you can not cut a tree without making a replacement. Being a citizen of this country, everyone has the right to question the validity of that act if in case we came across this situation. We can report them to the authorities nearest to us. Preserving our environment is everyone's concerned. Last year, we have a tree planting activity on selected places all over the region. The aim of the activity is to replenish the trees that were lost due to illegal cutting activities of some bad elements of the society. This is one of the Millennium Development Goals. Goal 7:Ensure Environmental Sustainability. Let's do our part. Let's help the government realized the goals. We have merely 3 years to do it. 2015 is the target year.

I know what you mean, when I was 9, I moved into a town and at that time , there were only a few buildings around, others are just trees and more trees. But just after five years, the town developed. It's was so fast! And I was there to see it all happened! Tress are cut down to make way for lousy concrete buildings, and (quite entertaining but still lousy) malls and shops... Its so sad! And given that I'm very sensitive when it comes to pollution, I can officially say...I am not as healthy as I used to be because of these developments...:(

This is so sad but it is the way of our world and economies. I would feel horrible to live in a place and watch all of the trees disappear for the sake of people moving in. I would feel so depressed that I think I would have to move but as you were little then I guess you could not do that huh? Well I live in a nicely wooded area now and I do not know if that will ever happen here. I hope not.

Some people are stupid sometimes. There are laws prohibiting trees being cut down, so it was probably the government themselves. I hate the fact that our planet is growing less and less trees every day. It is really sad.

It is always a great disappointment to me when greatly wooded areas of beauty and like you said, a pleasant place to spend in its shade are cut away so drastically. Things like this should not be allowed. Sparse cutting I can see okay with but when large areas are just clear cut then I do not think that is fair and it is not good for the world. Maybe one day they can learn their own lesson of it but I hope before it is too late for us all. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
