I have a dog its just two years old. Its not a hybrid. its a Great Indian Mongrel. My dog always gets a similar problem like you mentioned jondamz. But the worst part is my dog is not having long years but still it gets a clot kind of thing on the edge of his earlobe. My dog is too fussy about taking the medicines prescribed by the vet as well. Somehow we manage to crush the tablets and mix it in the milk and give it to my dog. After a few days the clot dissolves but reappears within a month. Doesn't seem to go off completely. :(

Even if he is fussy about taking the medicines, you must make him take all that the vet prescribed. If not, the mites he has will become even stronger and it will be even more difficult to get rid of them. Do follow the treatment correctly for as long as the vet says and don't forget about the local treatment. I am sure the vet prescribed something to apply locally.

King Charles Cavalier Spaniels suffer from an ear disorder called Canker. It is brown and a bit stinky. You will need to always treat it once it arrives. It is just part of the breed. Your vet will advise you of the best medicines to use, and you will probably need to keep on doing it for the rest of the dogs life. I hope you get it sorted, Best wishes, Ruth

From what I know, long eared dogs are prone to ear infections. But, if the problem persists for a long time, I suggest you to ask the vet to take some samples from the dog's ears and to run some tests to see what treatment will work for the germs/mites she has. You should know that if the medicine is not fit for her ear infection, it will make the germs/mites stronger and the problem will be even more difficult to be treated in the future.
