Hello Friends One of my friend wants to purchase laptop. Now he is purchasing the laptop or computer first time. So I suggested not to spend more money as he hasn't any work related it, he is just purchasing it for using it at home.. But he wants to purchased it with high feature. So he is going for 1TB hard disk, 8GB RAM, and I7 processor... Now I can understand about hard disk, but I think there is no need of such high configuration. I mean he have to spend quite lot money. He can go for low configuration, and still can have very fast and good laptop with low money. But what to tell, if he has money and he want to spent. I think its just unnecessary spending money as surely he is just going to see movies, or surf internet ( on sites like fb and others )... What you think about it? Do you go for such unwanted spending or think wisely and choose what you want actually...

Hi AKP- I think he needs a laptop with basic facilities with a big screen that would cost 16 to 18k in INR. spending more that that would be waste of money besides this amount is sufficient for a good quality laptop. any ways if your friend has money to spend you cannot help it. I would go for the new laptop that is soon available for only 5k by a Brit company in Mumbai.

By Brit Company !! That sounds cool. I haven't heard about it. Well, I tried to help him, but if he don't want to get help then surely I can do nothing. I have already given all the explanation to him that why he don't need computer with such high configuration, as he is just wasting extra money behind that... Now he has to decide, and i guess he will go for that higher rate only.

HI anand, after reading the heading I thought it would be me .. But no I wont spend such huge money for something I am not going to use. May be your friend has to think about buying two or more laptops with different models and configurations and even from different brands if he has more and more money in his pocket In our village it is happening but it is for brand new vehicle. I would say it is like a little city with new model two wheelers. Only difference is most are uneducated but having more money.

Well, He already purchased that laptop with high configuration, so I guess now there is no meaning in telling anything him now. I am just saying him that he have good laptop now. Well, he having no professional work on it, and even for professional work this laptop is more highly configured.. Well, hope he will take care of that laptop good.

Hi akp, practically for me, if I would only have lots of money I would really preferred to purchase that are really so nice and presentable to my self as maybe a gift to my self. Before I I bought my PC I already had a planned of having one that is not too cheap and not too expensive. In fact, I only bought a slightly use because the branded and brand new ones are too expensive. Let's get practical these days... Mobhomeir here 070412 1346hrs

Hi Even I will not go for more cheap.. I will surely buy branded one and which is more suitable for me... But still, even I have more money, I will not spent it for unnecessary. I mean even pc with log configuration than this can done so well... Why to spend such amount of money which are needless..

Way too high for normal use but hey if hes got the money why not? Seeing as its his first machine its difficult to tell what he may or may not use it for. Usually when I'm building my machines (I custom build ALL my computers) I'll look more at the upgrade ability of the motherboard and so on and then I'll look at what I'll be doing and base everything around those two aspects. Even for an everyday user 500GB and 2GB ram would be fine. Most people can't tell the difference between 2 & 4 GB nevermind 2-4-8GB. As for an i7 that's just overkill for everyday use. But hey like I said if he has the money then go for it. Speaking of which think I'll order some more Ram soon...

Hi Well, I would never go for such extra thing even I have more money.. I mean its just like wasting extra money behind nothing.. I know him well, and I know his usage too. He will just use it for general purpose, no professional use... So I guess he is wasting extra money behind that high configuration... but yes its his decision..

Well theres nothing wrong with buying a computer which is a higher spec than you need but at the same time you can go the other route and make sure it has good upgrade options for a month - year down the line. I'd rather upgrade than buy new machines constantly. Sometimes with my tastes works out a lil expensive but hey you get what you pay for and when it comes to my hardware id go quality over price anyday. But goodluck to him with his new toy when he gets it and get ready to say I told you so to him :)

Anand, i agree with you. IT is unnecessary to buy a high configuration system with a huge price if he don't have any work with it, as you mentioned he will just use it for watching movies and surfing net, so this high config system is heavy for him.

Hi VP That's what I told him, but he has to take final decision.. but I guess he will go for that higher one. I am a programmer and I need to open high software for programming.. Still i3 processor with 4 GB ram is working very well for me.. and in his case he will not use it for such work. Still...

this configuration is very high... firstly he should conform his demand and type of use... if he wants a laptop for normal use then i3 and 4GB ram is sufficient for all purposes and install a graphic card 2GB and hard disk which required...

That's what I exactly said to him.. But he won't listen.. I am a programmer, and I have recently purchased laptop.. I have i3 processor with 4GB ram, and I think its more than sufficient speed for me... So I advised him to go with similar configuration ... and in his case, he will just use it for general uses. Well, I have told him whatever needed.. now he has to decide.

I am completely agree with ravi770. focus on need then choose model

Well, if he is planning to use his laptop for more than 4 years, I think that will be okay but I believe it would be cheaper if that specs would be placed or assembled in a desktop. I would suggest going for i5 processor rather than i7 since he really does not seem to need that much processing power and could save a lot with that option and not loose much.

Hi He is looking for laptop, so will not take desktop. I think as per his work, or even for professional work I3 processor is well enough. And there is no need of 8GB RAM, I mean its too high.. And such high configuration doesn't mean he can use it for long, its all depend on how he use.. I mean my last laptop having very low configuration in compare of this one, still it worked for 7 years for me.

Hello Anand, Absolutely one should think before spending but what to do with people when they have lots of money as they don't hesitate to spend it even though they don't have a requirement for a particular thing.I remember i purchased a desktop last year rather got it assembled from an engineer with not such high configuration as i knew that i don't have to do any major work on it.

SJ... You have followed the perfect way.. That is the right way only. I mean we can always add those extra facility or upgrade our computer later when it needed. I don't think wasting money from starting without need, is necessary. He is just wasting money... If I have such money then I never spend them like this.
