The Internet should be free like it was back in the day.

If you were ever a computer user back in the day when 300/1200 baud modems were around on Commodore and Macintosh, then you know that back then the Internet which was called back then BBS(Bulletin Board System). We didn't have to pay for the Internet back then because their really wasn't that many users like there are today. Wouldn't it be nice if it was free though? Did you participate back in the Commodore age when Amiga and Macintosh were just the peach of the pie? Of course they weren't as classy and slimlined as computers are today. But we think it would be pretty cool to have free Internet access on a broadband connection because we don't think 56k or dial-up would cut it. HAHA Just wanted to express this and see what others think about the thought.

It was never free! The cost of the phone call was always there. And most of those BBS's weren't local. With the cost per minute and the incredibly slow speed of the data transfer, it was actually very expensive! You would have been far too young at that time!

Yea if you called long distance but where I lived all we had to get were the access numbers and you were on free in your local area. It was free to get on a BBS back in the day. That was in O, Florida. Check the link http://www.zimmers.net/bbs/index.html http://ilkerf.tripod.com/cdoc/combbs.html

Then you weren't around in the BBS days then. All I paid for was a phone line, cpu and a modem which was early 80's dear. Read the discussion topic. This was way before your time when you were not even aware of computers then. Ever heard of Amiga 128 and Commodore 64/128? All you had to buy was the computer and modem and then you could connect for free through the phone line. Do your own research back to the 300/1200 baud modem days. You may be a newb to that area if your not aware of what bbs's really were.

I don't recall internet being free, probably because I was too young, but I do remember 56k modems and I do remember having free access by using my neighbor's account.

hi, that would be so great if we never pay for the internet access, but because million of people are using this, meaning it is demanding for the people so they decided to put charges on it,i also tried to use dial-up internet and that was also okay with me before.

You are absolutely right about this. Internet should be free. That is why everybody who's trying to do something amazing, have made it free. You will find it free at airports for example. I'm not sure how that contributes to something amazing, but the experience of free internet there is pretty amazing. Then, there's Jerusalem. When I visited Jerusalem, I was all careful about using the internet, and wanted to know exactly from my host how internet works, so that I don't run him up costs. Big of course was my surprize to find that he laughed at my consideration, thinking I must be from some backwards country where internet is used to suck the poor dry. His internet service is free, and what I understood from him is that internet is free in Jerusalem because it's part of building up the smarts (brightness) of the people.
