What did they say and how has it affected your life. I have always appreciated older ones who have told me it is best to keep my life simple and focus on helping others. This in itself seems like such a simple thing but it really does mean a lot in our life. So many things in the world tell us to focus on ourselves and what we can do for "me", and to get more things. But when we keep our life simple and focus on what is really important we are able to be content and happy.

yep, some of my family members and relatives told me something that had great impact on my life. two of them are my step father, and my grand father from my mother and (deceased) father side; they told me before (during my younger ages) that education is the greatest treasure i can have, and i should be responsible with all the things i do. i did finish my studies until college and because of their brilliant advise, i can say i have a decent, simple way of living. my mother, as well as my grand mothers and my aunts and uncles, also told me that i should respect others so i get to be treated the same way. and of course, my wife and my daughter, they thought me to be stronger and more responsible. every words they told me are truly powerful and very inspiring for me to always be at my best :D

I'm glad that you have had many family members that have given you wise counsel that has affected your life in a great way. That is so important. So many people haven't had that in their life. So it is a wonderful thing when we know we have had great people in our lives that have made living so much better. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I can't remember who said it to me and it's a saying that's fairly popular. In fact, its origin I'm not even sure on. But the saying goes: "It's not the hand you're dealt, but how you play your cards." In other words, your situation in life does not define you. What defines you is how you handle your situation in life. Throughout my life I've seen many more fortunate than I and many less fortunate. That phrase speaks to all parties.

I completely agree with that. We've got to make the most of our situation. And it does us no good to compare ourselves or our circumstances to other people. We have to live our life and do what things are important to us.
