How far did SDCC set you back?

I've *always* wanted to go to Sand Diego Comic Con, but I'm not exactly well-off. So I'm curious, if you went to SDCC this year, about how much money did you spend? This includes con registration fee, travel expenses, food expenses, hotel room cost, and how much you spent on merch and other things. I know you probably don't want to think about how much you've actually spent, but I'm asking the literal question: How much was this experience worth?
And for the record, I know I would've maxed out any credit card I could get my hands on to have been at the Firefly Reunion panel. ^_~

Things are pretty bad all over, which is why I was surprised when people were telling me about the con, saying you had to buy tickets into the bigger media panels and even after buying tickets, you're not guarranteed a seat. That seems pretty shady to me and a definite waste of time and money. They really need to work on how their panels are organized.
