How Do You Give Someone Hope When They Feel All Is Lost

I was sitting in the mechanics lobby waiting for my car when another woman got the results of her car -- she needed a new catalytic converter, close to $1,000. She proceeded to tell me that she can't afford it, her husband was just diagnosed with terminal cancer of the brain and had less than 4 months to live, and that she was 2 months behind in rent. I felt bad for her and tried to cheer her up some. Tell me, how would you have handled the situation?

Sometimes just being there, next to someone can be helpful. Knowing that they have someone to talk to or just make them feel they are not alone. Things do get better. Of course it 's not very easy to say in the middle of those circumstances. Offering any kind of help I think makes a difference.

I hope I made a difference. I feel bad for her, but I'm not sure why she targeted me out with others sitting in the room.

Maybe you should give her a money, it is really helpful than words to cheer her up. After you give her the money say that her husband will be better. And do not forget to pray together with her. Also you should hear about her sorrow. It is better to hear than to talk in the moment like this.
