I don't know if its normal or not. We have four girls and one boy. Yeah, actually I'm talking about our dogs. we don't have children so we call them our children. lols. Anyway our only boy is afraid of thunder and lighting. And I really don't understand why. We even bring him to the hospital when its raining for one week and he did not eat and pull his hairs. Is other dogs also afraid of thunder and lighting? And may I know why?

Puppy look really cute. But sometimes they do that when they have done something wrong and its really melt your heart out when you see their puppy face. lols. But I guess that's how they going to say sorry to you. But its really frustrating that after you forgiven them they do it again. lols. I guess that's just they are spoiled in our house that if they do crazy things they know they will also be forgiven.

Our boy is like that. He is still very young, only 7 months old, but he is having this fear too. He is also afraid of fireworks. Once we had fireworks in our town and I took him on my hands on the balcony to try and show him the beautiful lighting. He was younger that time, around 4-5 months. He jumped out of my hands and went in the living room. What always wakes him up is when he hear loud sound, such like ambulance and police cars.

Next time that happen you just hold him tight until he relaxes and when he sees nothing happen I'm sure he will not afraid anymore. But same time its does not really work 100%. As he really afraid of the sound of thunder. lols. Ambulance and police car not really. But our dogs only hate one person and that is the guards of our town house. lols.

I have one dog that is afraid of thunder but the other three just act like it's no big deal. They are so much like "us" aren't they?

They.. I guess in every pack theirs a scary cat. lols. That's why we tease him "gay" because he is the only male dog in our house and he is afraid of the sound of thunder and our neighbor who happen to have a german shepherd also afraid of the thunder. lols.

Dogs are usually afraid of lightning and thunder. What we usually do is turn the volume of our radios to high so the lightning sound would be masked. Playing with them also helps too.

That's true. But we want to train them to be secure not to be more afraid of the sound of thunder. Besides our girls are not afraid its only the male one that is afraid of the sound of thunder. I'm hoping that he can get his courage soon. Because he is in out of hospital because of stress. Especially now that its rainy season in our country.

There are many dogs who are afraid of loud noises. Nobody can tell you why but one of the reason may be they inherited this fear from their mothers. Do you know your dog's mother? Is she also afraid of lightning and thunder? If so, you have the answer to your question. If not, maybe your dog had an unpleasant experience during a thunderstorm and this marked him for the life.

I don't think its related to mothers as our three girls are not afraid of the sound of thunder only our only boy who is afraid of the sound of thunder. Our neighbor dog also a male is afraid of the thunder. But our another neighbor who has a she-dog is not afraid of the thunder also. So for me theirs no relation to the dog mother or father.
