How can I partition my external hard disk without formating & losing data...

I have a 500gb external HDD. And i have about 200gb of data in it. My system hard disk is not working, so i wish to install Operating system in this external hard disk. currently my external hard disk is having single partition, so how can i make one more partition without losing my data in it. please help me.

Check out EASEUS, on their website under downloads there is a partition manager that can create multiple kinds of partitions. For example, I already created a 100GB FAT32 partition on my 500GB external. I'm pretty sure you don't have to format or lose any data but it's been a while since I did so I can't really remember too well.

thanks for the valuable comment. I used EASEUS partition master software and partitioned the HDD. It was very easy to use.

I think you need to upgrade your current operating system to create new partitions. Anyway it is better to have the help from experts, since you have to save your data. Or else post the same issue to the OS provider.

mine was just reformat but wasn't successful as my hardDisk is not working anymore. so Now I can no longer used my netbook that I need to be here in internet cafe..

EASEUS partition master, i used this software. it was very easy to use it and make the partition. so try it.

oohh... you can move your data to other disc, or you can use software file restore
