Here's what worked for me for weight loss ...........

I thought of including this in my earlier discussion, but then decided against it and thought a new one would help others as well. 1. Reduced intake of sugar drastically: I used to have at least five cups of coffee or tea every day and two cups of milk with a malt based powder. So that made 7 cups of full blown sugar calories. Now it is only two cups of coffee, one in the morning and one in the evening. The rest of the day I take only sugarless milk and it is the same at night. And no sweets, chocolates, cakes, pastries or anything that contains sugar. 2. Started taking a lot of liquids: I have started drinking lots of milk without sugar as well as lots and lots of water so that I feel full most of the time and do not feel hungry often. The protien in the milk helps too to feel fuller and to suppress appetite. Wo when I am very very hungry, I opt for a glass of milk than reach out for snacks of any kind. 3. Had smaller but more frequent meals: I reduced the quantity of my food but saw to it that I had something to snack on every two to three hours. By snack I mean, freshly cut fruit, boiled legumes, fresh cucumber, carrots and the like, home made soups, oats, tender coconut water etc. But be careful not to eat fruits which contain a lot of sweetness and coconut water, if taken daily, makes you put on weight. Once or twice a week is okay. 4. Choose the fruits which contained more water: Grapes, watermelon, musk melon, pomegranate, oranges, papaya(since it does not contain much sugar), apple(maybe twice or thrice a week) and guava. 5. Had light dinner: There is a bread made out of whole wheat flour in India. There are a variety of ways to cook it, but I prefer the ones without oil, neither while kneading them nor while cooking them. And this I limited to two or three. 6. Cut down oily food: I started having food with either little or no oil at all. Fried stuff was absolutely forbidden. I might have just one to satisfy my craving, but beyond that, everything was a strict no. 7. Cheese, butter, ghee, pizza, burger...: You guessed it! It is a big NO! 8. Joined a gym and worked out six days a week: Or at least tried to work out six days a week but failed most of the time. So let me be honest here. I definitely worked out 4 days a week but the other two days(one day a week is resting time for my aching muscles) I might have some work or the other. So, I might not be able to spare much time to go to the gym. So effective workout days is 4 days a week. 9. Took to walking and prefered the public transport than taking an autorickshaw: If I had to go to a shop which is nearby, I always walk. Invest in some good walking or running shoes. Never compromise on your shoes. If I had to go somewhere far off or even a little distance, I used the public transport because I would have to walk at least half a kilometre to reach the bus stop. And the same after I got down from the bus. 10. Took stairs whenever or wherever I could find one: I prefered the stairs when I went to shopping malls, offices, buildings etc. If there was an alternative to escalators and lifts I would definitely take it. 11. Never starved: I made it a point never to starve myself. If that happens, you tend to get more hungry and binge on unhealthy snack or worse, food full of fat and sugar. So, I never go without eating. 12. When I went out somewhere, I always took some cut fruit along with me: This is to prevent myself from going hungry and buying unhealthy food. 13. I seldom ate out: When we eat out, we tend to eat more and put on more calories. So I always ate at home and if I had to eat out and had no choice, I stuck to my oil-less wheat bread named phulka. 14. Never gave up: I kept the faith when I did not loose weight like others did. Since I am trying to loose weight after childbirth, it is a very very slow process for me. But I was and am happy with the weight I have lost and am still on my way to loosing more. So these are what worked for me for my weight loss(even though it is just 5 kilos in about two months). Hope this will help others who are trying to loose weight. And please feel free to share your experiences, tips or even hearsay so that people like me would benefit from this.

Yes, you are right. I have a right weight but I still watch what I eat even if there is no restriction over it. I do like sweet things but I don't like sweet drinks like sodas or even caffeine so I just drink water daily. About the foods, I prefer to cook food myself than buy outside. Eat healthy and do exercise will at least keep my weight the same.(^^)

Yes, when we cook the food by ourselves then we would know what we should and should not put. While on the other hand the food outside usually have more flavoring and seasoning to make it more tasty and with more choice that we absolutely make us drooling.

Moreover, God only knows what they add in the dishes. They might not be healthy at all. I do not eat out at all. I have found out that I tend to eat a lot when I go out so that has reduced a lot.

You are right too. I do not eat out too nowadays as we tend to eat more. And god knows about the ingredients! Drinking plenty of water too helps in feeling full and in turn helps in weight loss.

Make a note of how much you weigh now, how much you think of loosing and how long you need to take to reduce to that weight and stick to your diet and workouts. It is okay if you slip once or twice, but never give up. And good luck with your weight loss effort.

Thank you for sharing these health tips. There are a lot of products that we hear on tv and on the web about how it would help lose weight but the best tip is DISCIPLINE. What is knowledge about these tips if we can't even get to implement them ourselves.

Hi joliefille. You are right. Getting tips and dreaming of a good body does no good if we don't work towards it. And without discipline, nothing can be achieved. This holds good not only in weight loss but everything else too.

Your post is very informative. I know almost 80% of them by heart but as you know it, it is really easier said than done specially if it involves climbing the stairs. Ask me to walk, as far as you want it to be but please don't let me climb stairs. Believe me when I say that it takes the living daylight out of me. Every step is a pain. Maybe because I'm already considered as obese one and every step leaves me out of breath. Of course, if I really have to take losing weight seriously, I better start doing what you preach. Kudos to you on your weight loss. I do hope to follow in your footsteps to a slimmer me.

Thanks for you sharing, really good suggestion, people who want to lose weight will come across some peoblems when they are ready to lose weight, we know that some people fail to lose weight because of lacking of executive force. Executive force is very important for people who are ready to lose weight, once you set up a weight loss plan, you have to follow it strictly.

That is what I keep telling myself as well as others too. Never give up. Keep trying. If you slip once and binge, it is okay. But don't continue binging on unhealthy food and skip your exercises. Half the work is done when you are determined to loose weight.

Good job there devijay. This may not be easy for me to follow, though. But, I can try the limitations on sweets and adding more liquid and fruits in the diet. It's just sad that fruits cost a lot, nowadays. For an agricultural country like ours, it's really disappointing to find fruits and vegetables at very high cost in the supermarket, especially in the city.
